Ogun 2027: Yayi visits Obasanjo, Amosun for support

The All Progressives Congress’ governorship candidate for the 2027 Ogun State election and senator representing Ogun West, Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, on Friday visited former President Olusegun Obasanjo and former Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun, in Abeokuta, seeking their moral support in his bid to succeed Governor Dapo Abiodun.

Adeola said he would incorporate the recommendations and counsel offered by Obasanjo into his administration’s plans and programmes if elected governor in 2027.

Speaking with journalists after his meeting with Obasanjo at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, Adeola described the visit as fruitful, saying the former President shared his expectations for the development of Ogun State and offered guidance on governance.

He said, “I am here to pay homage to our father, the father of the nation, a former President and a respected national leader. As you can see, we received a very warm reception.

“We came to seek his support, his blessings and his guidance, and he graciously gave us all three.

“In his remarks, he made his views loud and clear. He spoke passionately about the future of the state, his expectations and what he believes we must do to keep the state on the right track.

“We have listened carefully, taken his advice to heart, and we will incorporate it into our plans and programmes as we move toward 2027.

“It has been a very successful visit, and I sincerely thank the former President for the warm reception he extended to me and my deputy,” Adeola said.

While receiving the APC governorship candidate, Obasanjo urged the third-term senator to remain focused on his ambition while seeking divine direction.

“My prayer is that your desires and your ambitions will be in alignment with what God has planned for you,” the former President said.

He recalled how his youthful ambition to study geology and work in the oil and gas industry gave way to a military career, which he described as God’s purpose for his life.

“I wanted to study geology and become a great geologist, but that was not God’s plan for me. God’s plan was for me to make progress through the military, and He helped me every step of the way.

“I pray that God’s purpose for your life will also be fulfilled.

“Be focused on what you want to do and what you want to achieve. If anyone has a goal or an aspiration, let them pursue it with determination and leave the rest to God and to our people,” Obasanjo added.

Addressing journalists after meeting Amosun, the senator described the former governor as his political leader and said the visit was aimed at strengthening consultations within the APC.

He said, “I am here to call on my leader and also seek his understanding and support, which he has graciously granted.

“I will still return for another scheduled visit when he will be ready to address the press. But today’s meeting has been wonderful. As you can see, everyone is happy, the turnout was impressive and we are all speaking with one voice. It is victory for our party in 2027.”

Responding, Amosun stressed the need for unity within the APC, saying members should work together rather than create divisions.

“What people are looking for is good governance. We are one family, and there is no need to form separate groups,” the former governor said.

He expressed appreciation to party members and supporters who accompanied Adeola on the visit and urged them to continue working together.

“It is a great joy that you have all come. We appreciate your presence, and we ask for your continued support and cooperation.

“This visit is not about seeking support because the support is already there. We are ready to move forward. When the time comes, we will put everything together, review it carefully and proceed accordingly,” Amosun added.

The twin visits are seen as part of Adeola’s ongoing consultations with key political leaders and stakeholders across Ogun State as preparations gather momentum for the 2027 governorship election.
