One of the first qualities I noticed in Rt. Hon. Stanley Odidiomo was his humility.
In a political environment where public figures can sometimes become distant or overly conscious of their positions, Odidiomo presents a different impression. His humility is reflected in the way he relates with people, listens to others and carries himself despite his experience and status in public service.
To me, humility is not a sign of weakness. Rather, it is a strength that allows a leader to remain connected to the people. A humble leader understands that political office is a responsibility entrusted to him by the people and not a licence to look down on them.
What particularly caught my attention about Odidiomo is the absence of unnecessary arrogance in his interaction with people. He does not appear to place himself above others because of his political experience or position. Instead, he creates room for conversation, engagement and mutual respect.
This quality matters greatly in leadership. People want representatives who can listen to them, understand their concerns and engage them with respect. A leader who remains humble can build bridges across different communities, generations and social backgrounds.
My observation of Rt. Hon. Stanley Odidiomo has therefore convinced me that humility can be one of the most valuable attributes a public servant can possess.
As the APM candidate for Oyo South Senatorial District, his journey will continue to attract public attention and scrutiny. Beyond political slogans and campaigns, however, the character of a candidate also matters.
For me, humility—not arrogance—is the first value I noticed from Odidiomo.
And sometimes, the simplest qualities tell us a lot about the kind of person standing before us.
