..Governor’s direct engagement with grassroots group draws praise, as he speaks on unity and safety in Oyo
Governor Seyi Makinde on Tuesday stepped out to address members of the Ratels, a prominent grassroots support group, in another show of his hands-on leadership style.
True to form, the governor delivered his message directly, without proxies. He spoke on party unity, continued support for the Omituntun agenda, and his administration’s commitment to keeping Oyo safe.
Members of the Ratels described the moment as typical of Makinde. “He always shows up,” one member said, noting that the governor consistently engages directly with grassroots structures instead of delegating.

Political observers say Makinde’s willingness to meet groups face-to-face has strengthened trust and loyalty within the PDP base across Ibadan.
During the engagement, Governor Makinde also addressed growing concerns over the recent abduction of students and a teacher in the state. He assured the gathering and residents at large that his government is working closely with security agencies to secure their safe and immediate release.
“The safety of our children and teachers is non-negotiable. I want to assure parents, guardians, and the people of Oyo State that we are deploying all necessary resources and intelligence to ensure the abducted students and their teacher are rescued unharmed and reunited with their families,” Makinde stated.
He added that his administration will not relent in strengthening security across schools and communities, while calling for cooperation from citizens in sharing useful information with security agencies.
The governor’s direct address further reinforced his reputation as a leader who prioritizes communication and accountability. Party leaders present said the engagement, coupled with the assurance on security, sent a strong message of hope and resolve.
