Former Oyo State Commissioner for Works and Transport, Prof. Abdulrahman Raphael Afonja, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of the Aare Musulumi of Ogbomosoland, Alhaji Abdul Ganiyu Atanda Owodunni.
Alhaji Owodunni passed away over the weekend after a brief illness.
Afonja described him as a devoted Muslim, elder statesman, and pillar of the Ogbomoso community, noting that his death has created a vacuum that will be difficult to fill.
“Alhaji Abdul Ganiyu Atanda Owodunni dedicated his life to the service of Allah and humanity. He contributed immensely to peace, unity, and the advancement of Islam in Ogbomosoland. His wisdom, fatherly guidance, and commitment to community development earned him the respect and admiration of all,” Afonja said.

On behalf of his family, he extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, the Muslim Ummah, and the entire people of Ogbomosoland. He noted that the values he upheld, the lives he touched, and the legacy of faith and service he leaves behind will continue to inspire generations to come.
“We pray that Almighty Allah grants everyone affected by this loss the strength and fortitude to bear it,” he said.
Afonja equally prayed that Allah (SWT) forgives Alhaji Owodunni’s shortcomings, accepts his good deeds, expands and illuminates his grave, and grants him eternal rest in Al-Jannah Firdaus.
