Dr. Fagbemi’s Positive Impact Still Producing Results in Oyo Health Sector — AMDO Chairman

The Association of Medical and Dental Officers of Oyo State, AMDO, says about 60 percent of the 2026 Medical Residency Training Fund, MRTF, has been disbursed to resident doctors in the state.

Chairman of AMDO, Dr. Solomon Olagoke Olaoye, disclosed this in a statement, saying the implementation and disbursement of the fund commenced on Monday, September 14, 2026.

Olaoye described the development as a significant milestone in efforts to institutionalise and fully implement the MRTF for resident doctors in Oyo State.

He, however, said the association would continue to engage relevant authorities until the outstanding 40 percent of the fund is released.

The AMDO chairman commended the Oyo State Ministry of Health and the Director of Tertiary Health Services, Dr. Fasasi, for their contributions towards the implementation of the MRTF.

He also appreciated the former Chairman of the Oyo State Hospitals Management Board, Mogaji Akin Fagbemi, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Anifat Ibrahim, and the Chief Medical Director of LAUTECH Teaching Hospital, Dr. Olawale Olakulehin.

He further acknowledged the contributions of the Chairman, Medical Advisory Council of LAUTECH Teaching Hospital, Dr. Oluwajoba Olayinka, Director of Medical Services, Dr. Olufemi Adesanya, and Deputy Director of Medical Services, Dr. Chisom Fajimi, towards the enactment and implementation of the MRTF law.

Olaoye also commended resident doctors for their patience and resilience during the prolonged negotiations, assuring members that the executive council remained committed to addressing other outstanding welfare issues, including the approval and implementation of accoutrement and professional allowances.

He said AMDO would in the coming weeks strengthen collaboration with the Nigerian Medical Association, NMA, Association of Resident Doctors, ARD, LAUTECH Teaching Hospital, NARD Southwest Caucus and the National Association of Resident Doctors, NARD, to present a united position to the Oyo State Government on issues affecting doctors in the state.

The AMDO chairman stressed that while the association remained committed to dialogue and constructive engagement with government, such engagements must lead to tangible results and implementation of legitimate demands.

Olaoye also urged members to participate actively in the forthcoming virtual Annual General Meeting of AMDO, describing the AGM as an important platform to review the association’s achievements, discuss outstanding challenges and determine the next steps on members’ welfare.
