Professor Adeolu Akande, former Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission(NCC),formally joined the race to represent Oyo North Senatorial District in the National Assembly in 2027 by picking his Nomination and Expression of Interest Forms of the All Progressives Congress(APC) on the opening day of the sale of forms,Tuesday.


A professor of Political Science and lawyer,Akande has sustained his campaign on a five point agenda entitled
‘My Vision for Oyo North’:
i. Safer Communities Through Effective Oversight
ii. Infrastructure for Social Wellbeing and Economic Development
iii. Agriculture for Food Security and Rural Development
iv. Youth, Women and People with Disabilities Empowerment
v. Education, Employment And Economic Oppurtunities.

Prof Akande comes into the race with over 35 years corporate experience across journalism, academics and public service.


He taught Political Science at the University of Ibadan and Igbinedion University,Okada, Edo State. He was political editor at the Nigerian Tribune and served as Director of Centre for Presidential Studies at the Igbinedion University,Okada.


He presently teaches part- time at the Nigerian Institute of Legislative and Democrative Studies, the manpower development arm of the Nigerian National Assembly.


Akande had served as Special Assistant in the Presidency, Chief of Staff to the Governor of Oyo State, Chairman of the Board of the National Information Technology Development Agency(NITDA) and Chairman,Board of Commissioners of the Nigerian Communications Commission(NCC).
