The Chairman of Oluyole Local Government Area, Engr. Akeem Olatunji, has described the emergence of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, as Chairman of the Oyo State Council of Obas and Chiefs as well deserved.

He said the move was a timely step that restores order, clarity and stability to the state’s traditional institutional governance.

The LG chairman said the development reaffirmed respect for tradition and order while strengthening harmony among royal institutions across the state.

In a statement on Thursday, he noted that the Olubadan’s assumption of the chairmanship aligns with established customs and the amended provisions of the state’s chieftaincy law, which returned the council to a rotational leadership structure.

According to him, the restoration of the council and the choice of the Olubadan as chairman would enhance cooperation among traditional rulers and provide a more coordinated advisory platform for governance, peacebuilding and grassroots development.

He said traditional institutions remain critical partners in governance, especially in matters of culture, security and grassroots community cohesion, adding that a stable and respected council leadership was essential for maintaining public confidence in the institution.

The Oluyole LG boss also commended Governor Seyi Makinde for what he described as political will and sensitivity in reviving the Council of Obas and Chiefs after 14 years of inactivity, noting that the move demonstrated respect for history and inclusiveness.

He expressed confidence that the Olubadan’s leadership would foster unity among monarchs and contribute meaningfully to the state’s social-cultural and political stability.

The chairman urged traditional rulers and stakeholders across Oyo State to support the council under its new leadership, stressing that collaboration remained key to preserving cultural heritage and promoting sustainable development at the grassroots.

The Oyo State Council of Obas and Chiefs was recently inaugurated following amendments to the state’s chieftaincy law, with the chairmanship rotating among the Alaafin of Oyo, the Soun of Ogbomoso and the Olubadan of Ibadanland.
