The House of Representatives candidate of the Allied People’s Movement (APM) for Oluyole Federal Constituency, Engr. Akeem Olatunji, alongside other party leaders and stakeholders, has intensified grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
This was as they donated cash, food items and campaign materials to party members across all 10 wards of Oluyole Local Government Area of Oyo State.
The donations were made during the APM Local Government stakeholders’ meeting held at Sabo, Idi-Ayunre earlier in the week, where party leaders reiterated the need for unity, loyalty and sustained grassroots engagement as preparations gather momentum for the 2027 polls.
In a major boost to the party’s grassroots mobilization drive, the Oyo State Joint Chairman of Motorcycle Operators, Alhaji Saheed Akande, popularly known as Omo Owo, and the Oyo State Joint Chairman of Tricycle (Marwa) Operators, Alhaji Esho Giwa, jointly donated 20 bags of rice alongside campaign materials to support Engr. Olatunji and other APM candidates.
Engr. Olatunji also announced a cash donation of over ₦2 million to support party activities across the 10 wards in Oluyole Local Government.
The financial support, described as his monthly contribution towards strengthening the party’s grassroots structure, was made on behalf of the Chairman of the Oyo State Park Management System, Alhaji Tomiwa Omolewa, popularly known as Tommy.
Speaking after receiving the donations, Olatunji expressed profound appreciation to the donors for their unwavering commitment to the party and its vision.
He described their gesture as a demonstration of genuine belief in good governance and grassroots development, noting that such support would further energise members ahead of the forthcoming elections.
Olatunji offered special prayers for Governor Seyi Makinde, seeking divine guidance, wisdom and strength for the governor as he continues to provide leadership and deliver developmental projects across Oyo State.
Addressing party members, Alhaji Saheed Akande commended Governor Makinde for what he described as remarkable developmental strides recorded across the state and urged members to remain focused and avoid sacrificing their future for temporary benefits in the hands of what was described as political oppressors.
He advised supporters to uphold integrity and patience, assuring them that loyalty and commitment to the party would ultimately be rewarded.
“Do not mortgage your future because of immediate gains. Remain steadfast and committed because everyone will receive his reward at the appropriate time,” he told the gathering.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the PDP/APM Alliance in Oyo State, Alhaji Nasiru Hamzat, lauded the donors for their generosity and praised Olatunji’s performance at the grassroots.
According to him, Olatunji has remained accessible to the people of Oluyole and has consistently demonstrated commitment to grassroots development.
Hamzat also contrasted Olatunji’s grassroots presence with the representation currently enjoyed by the constituency at the National Assembly, arguing that residents had not experienced meaningful dividends from the serving lawmaker over the past seven years.
He therefore urged party members and residents of Oluyole Federal Constituency to unite behind Olatunji, whom he described as a tested and trusted grassroots politician capable of providing effective and qualitative representation at the National Assembly.
Former Commissioner in the state, Engr. Ayuba Balogun, urged party members to maintain unity and work collectively towards ensuring victory for all APM candidates in the 2027 elections.
He stressed that internal cohesion remained the party’s greatest strength, warning members against actions capable of creating division within the fold.
According to him, electing all APM candidates would guarantee greater democratic dividends for the people of Oluyole and Oyo State at large.
In his remarks, another PDP leader in Oluyole Local Government, Alhaji Fatai Ogunrin, urged members to learn from past political experiences and avoid repeating mistakes capable of weakening the party’s chances and opportunities.
He declared that no individual would be allowed to undermine the unity and progress the party has built over time, describing the current level of harmony within the APM in Oluyole as unprecedented under the leadership of Olatunji.
Ogunrin expressed confidence that the party was well-positioned to secure victory at the polls, urging members to remain loyal, steadfast and committed to the collective aspiration of delivering all APM candidates from President to state House of Assembly in the forthcoming elections.
The meeting witnessed the presence of several party leaders and stakeholders, including former member of the Oyo State House of Assembly representing Oluyole, Hon. Lukman Salawu; former Caretaker Chairman of Oluyole Local Government, Hon. Kehinde Abore; party executives, ward chairmen, political appointees, women’s groups, youth leaders and other party faithful.
