Former Labour Party governorship candidate in the 2023 Oyo State election and former Vice Chairman of Egbeda Local Government under the All Progressives Congress (APC), Hon. Alhaji Tawfik Tayo Akinwale, has officially defected from the APC to the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).
Akinwale said his decision to join the APM was driven by his desire to support a political movement he believes will sustain development, promote good governance, and advance the interests of the people of Oyo State.
As part of his declaration, he expressed his support for Governor Seyi Makinde’s reported 2027 presidential ambition and endorsed the APM governorship candidate, Bimbo Adekanmbi, for the 2027 Oyo State governorship election.
He called on his supporters and other well-meaning citizens to work together in building a stronger and more inclusive political future for the state.
The defection is another notable development in Oyo State’s evolving political landscape ahead of the 2027 general elections, as political alignments continue to shift across party lines.
