The Oho family from across Ibadan and beyond converged in Foko on Saturday for the annual Oho Day celebration, which featured the installation of Chief Rasheed Akinade Banmeke as the new Baale Agbole Oho.

The event, steeped in tradition and cultural display, drew family members, community leaders, and well-wishers to the historic Foko community in Ibadan South West Local Government Area. Drummers, praise singers, and traditional dancers heralded the procession that ushered Chief Banmeke to the venue for the rites of installation.
Performed according to Ibadan traditional customs, the installation will be conducted by accredited family elders and to be witnessed by representatives of the Olubadan-in-Council at Agbole Olowe. The rites conferred on Chief Banmeke the authority to oversee the affairs of Agbole Oho, with responsibilities covering family unity, land matters, and cultural preservation within the compound.

In his acceptance remarks, Baale Rasheed Akinade Banmeke pledged to uphold the legacy of his forebears and strengthen bonds among Oho descendants. “This is a call to service. Agbole Oho must remain a symbol of unity, discipline, and progress for our children and those yet unborn,” he said.

Chairman of the Oho Day Planning Committee, Tunde Amole, described the installation as the high point of this year’s celebration, noting that Oho Day was instituted to foster cohesion and document the family’s history for future generations.

The event will featured prayers for peace in Ibadanland, and a communal feast. Dignitaries expected at the event include Mogajis, Baales from adjoining compounds, and representatives of the Central Council of QIbadan Indigenes (CCII).

Oho Day is observed annually as a homecoming for Oho descendants, combining cultural revival with deliberations on family development projects.
