A comprehensive report detailing the current state of key tourist attractions across Oyo State was presented to the Oyo State House of Assembly yesterday by Hon. (Dr) Mrs. Bisi Oluranti , Chairman of the House Committee on Culture and Tourism.

The report, stemming from series of inspection visits, highlighted the urgent need for revitalization to meet the state government’s revenue targets and align with the Omituntun 2.0 Sustainable Action for Economic Recovery (SAFER) Policy.

The committee’s inspection tour covered a wide range of sites, including the Suspended Lake in Ado-Awaye, Sogidi Lake in Aawe, Agbele Hill in Igbeti, Asabari Hill in Saki, Iyanla Hill in Tede, and the Old City on the Hill in Itesiwaju. These sites, located across Afijo, Irepo, Saki East, Atisbo, and Iwajowa Local Government Areas, were assessed for their current condition and potential for economic contribution to the state.

Hon. Bisi Oluranti presented series of recommendations to the House, emphasizing the necessity for immediate action. Firstly, the committee commended Governor Seyi Makinde for his vision regarding the tourism and hospitality industries in Oyo State. However, the report also revealed significant infrastructural challenges hindering the full potential of these sites.

Key recommendations included:

* Development of a Tourist Master Plan: The committee urged the Executive Arm of Government, through the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, to develop a comprehensive master plan for the management and development of these tourist centers.

* Establishment of Management Committees: The report called for the formation of dedicated management committees to oversee the operations and maintenance of each site.

* Addressing Basic Amenities:
The committee highlighted the urgent need to address the lack of essential amenities, including motorable roads, perimeter fencing with control gates, street lighting and illumination, recreational facilities, and regular maintenance to prevent the encroachment of dangerous animals.

* Public-Private Partnerships: The report emphasized the importance of collaboration and synergy with corporate organizations and Nigerians both at home and in the diaspora to fully develop the tourism potential of these centers.

“These tourist centers hold immense potential for the economic growth of our state,” stated Hon. Bisi Oluranti

“However, without significant investment and strategic planning, we will not be able to fully realize their benefits.

We hope that the government will take these recommendations seriously and act swiftly to revitalize our tourism sector.”

The report has now been submitted for the House’s approval, with expectations that the recommendations will be implemented promptly to boost tourism and contribute to the economic development of Oyo State.
