It is laughable when people who ought to know better, perhaps to score cheap political points, condemn Hon. Akeem Adéyemí over the eventual siting of the Federal University of Agriculture at Okeho rather than Fiditi. While the disappointment is understandable, the criticism is misdirected, unfair, and baseless.
As a victim of his own success that Hon. Skimeh is, we will not cease to remind you that he is primarily a legislator who fulfilled his constitutional mandate by sponsoring and championing the bill for the establishment of a Federal University of Agriculture for our people, THE FIRST OF ITS KIND IN OYO. That bill scaled first reading and moved through all the legislative processes, a task that required diligence, lobbying, and persistence on his part. What must be understood, however, is that a member of the National Assembly does not possess assenting or executive power over where a federal institution is ultimately sited. That authority rests with the Executive Arm of Government, through the Presidency, the Federal Executive Council, and the relevant supervising ministry. Once a bill is passed into law, decisions on implementation, including physical location, pass into hands entirely outside the sponsoring lawmaker’s control.
To attempt to hang Hon. Akeem Adeyemi for an outcome he had no legal power to determine is pure deliberate skulduggery. Rather,we call on political antagonists from other side of political divide to base their campaign on facts and show us the track record of their candidate, including the Light Up Oyo Project and his achievements as Commissioner for Environment in the last seven years.
