…Reiterates zero tolerance for corruption within commission

The Federal Character Commissioner representing Oyo State, Prince Abass Aleshinloye, has reaffirmed his commitment to eliminating job racketeering and ensuring equitable distribution of opportunities across Nigeria, as he marked his first 100 days in office.

Speaking during a press conference held at the Federal Secretariat in Ikolaba, Ibadan, Aleshinloye declared that corrupt practices, particularly job racketeering, would no longer be tolerated within the Federal Character Commission.

He emphasized that the commission has embraced digital processes to enhance transparency and accountability.

According to him, “Racketeering in any form has no place in this commission. We have gone digital to ensure fairness, and such practices are now a thing of the past.”

The commissioner also addressed allegations of lopsided federal appointments favoring certain regions.

He dismissed the claims, noting that a detailed analysis had already been conducted, which showed balanced distribution.

Aleshinloye, however, highlighted funding as a major challenge facing the commission.

Despite this, he assured that the commission would not relent in carrying out its mandate.

“We may not have sufficient funds, but we will not stop working. It is important for the public to know that we are delivering on our responsibilities,” he said.

Expanding on the commission’s scope, Aleshinloye stressed that its responsibilities go beyond job placements.

He explained that the commission is also focused on ensuring fairness in the distribution of infrastructure and amenities across regions.

He further disclosed plans to extend the commission’s operations to the grassroots level through the establishment of Federal Character desks in all 774 local government areas in Nigeria.

This initiative, he said, is being driven by a committee he currently chairs, with the aim of deepening awareness and implementation of federal character principles nationwide.

As part of efforts to improve access to employment opportunities, the commissioner noted that a digital job seekers’ platform has been introduced to connect qualified candidates with available vacancies in a transparent manner.

Additionally, he announced the introduction of dedicated whistleblower channels to report misconduct, underscoring the commission’s resolve to stamp out corruption.

Aleshinloye expressed confidence in his team’s ability to deliver on its mandate, adding that the commission is already setting new targets beyond its initial 100-day achievements.
