PDP Stakeholders Urge Gov. Makinde to Rescue Oyo Federal Constituency Amid Crises

Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, has been urged to intervene in the crises rocking the Oyo Federal Constituency chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The call was made by stakeholders of the party, who met on Saturday, March 22, 2025, under the chairmanship of Rt. Hon. Moroof Olawale Atilola.

The stakeholders identified several factors contributing to the crisis, including the lopsided sharing of political appointments and slots, anti-party activities, centralization of power, and non-compliance with the party constitution.

They resolved to support Governor Makinde as their leader and appealed to him to decentralize power, allow for all-inclusive participation, and address other issues affecting the party.

The stakeholders also called for the recognition of Rt. Hon. Moroof Olawale Atilola as the leader of the PDP in Oyo Federal Constituency, citing his unifying force and ability to promote democratic ideals.

They equally urged Governor Makinde to consider their proposals as lasting solutions to propel the progress of the party in the constituency.

The statement further emphasized that a leader’s rise to prominence by proxy has been exacerbating the situation and not making any noteworthy strides for the PDP in the constituency.

URGENT NEED TO RESCUE, REVIVE AND SALVAGE PDP IN OYO FEDERAL CONSTITUENCY

A Communique issued at the Oyo Federal Constituency’s PDP Stakeholders’ meeting held on 22nd March, 2025 under the Chairmanship of Rt. Hon. Moroof Olawale Atilola.

We, the under signed Stalwarts and Stakeholders of PDP in Oyo Federal Constituency which comprises AFIJIO, ATIBA, OYO EAST and OYO WEST respectively, identified the following major factors that are causing crises in our great party, which are inimical to the good image and success of our party in the forthcoming general elections,2027:

• Lopsidedness in the sharing of political appointments and slots

• Anti-party activities among some party Leaders

• Centralization/concentration of power in one side leading to marginalization, maligning and oppression

• Non-functioning of party organs

• Non-compliance with party constitution and joint deliberations and harmonization during the last local government elections

* Complete absence of information and communication due to power concentration into one side

After serious deliberations on the above identified reasons, we resolved as follows:

– We have no other Party except PDP, and that our only Leader and arrowhead is His Excellency, Engineer Oluwaseyi Abiodun Makinde, the Executive Governor of Oyo State, whom we declare our unwavering support for.

– We greatly appreciate the efforts of His Excellency, Engineer Oluwaseyi Makinde, the Executive Governor of Oyo State, for his dogged determination to ensure peace and unity return to the PDP in Oyo Federal Constituency, through his Special Assistant on Oyo Federal Constituency Matters. These efforts are pivotal to this significant progress.

– Immediate decentralization of power in OFC to allow for all – inclusive participation

– Joint appeal for refund of Nomination form fees to deprived party Aspirants

– Replacement of South-West EXCO should come from the main stream of the PDP.

– Rt. Hon. Moroof Olawale Atilola, the two – time former Speaker and current Chairman of Oyo State Scholarship Board, should henceforth be recognized and accepted as the Leader of the PDP in Oyo Federal Constituency, with a team of new young, vibrant and more energetic leaders from all the four Local Governments as his team for all – inclusive administration of PDP in line with Democratic ideals of our party. This is because the emergence of self – acclaimed leader by proxy has been fuelling the crises, not contributing any significant progress to the PDP in our Constituency. At this crucial period, the PDP in OFC needs a leader with centripetal (unifying) force, not a divisive one.

Therefore, we are pleading and appealing to our ever performing and progressive – minded Governor, His Excellency, Engineer Abiodun Oluwaseyi Makinde, to consider all our proffered solutions as lasting solutions that will propel the progress of our party in the OFC and make us continue enjoying the good governance of His Excellency in Oyo.

All truly committed members of the PDP in Oyo Federal Constituency have risen up in unison to revive and rescue the Party from the imminent collapse due to high-handedness, treachery, selective treatment, falsehood, oppression and open confrontations.
