A coalition of young people across Oyo State on Friday officially launched the Bimbo Adekanmbi Support for Excellence (BASE) Movement, a youth-driven political and civic initiative aimed at mobilising support for the governorship ambition of Bimbo Adekanmbi ahead of the 2027 general election.

The movement, unveiled with the slogan, “# *IAm4BASE* ,” seeks to promote what its coordinators described as a vision of excellence, integrity, inclusive governance, youth empowerment and sustainable development for Oyo State.

Speaking during the launch, the Media and Publicity Secretary of the movement, Akindele Alabi, said BASE was established to provide a platform through which young people could actively participate in shaping the future of the state while supporting a candidate they believe possesses the competence and experience required to sustain Oyo’s development.

According to him, the movement is designed to move beyond conventional political mobilisation by positioning young people not merely as campaign supporters but as partners in governance, community champions, innovators and agents of development.

“BASE has come alive as a political and civic movement committed to supporting a governorship candidate who possesses the experience, competence and leadership qualities required to continue the developmental strides of the present administration beyond 2027,” Alabi said.

He described the movement as a new generation platform built on inclusion, innovation, opportunity and public service, adding that its members believe Adekanmbi has the credentials and capacity to drive economic growth and expand development across Oyo State.

Alabi said the movement would embark on grassroots mobilisation, youth engagement and public awareness campaigns across the state to encourage wider participation among young people.

He maintained that meaningful youth involvement in governance would make government more responsive, inclusive and better positioned to address both present and future challenges.

“We believe Bimbo Adekanmbi shares the aspirations of young people and has the capacity to translate those aspirations into practical governance. That is why we are mobilising our fellow youths to support this movement,

” Registration for interested individuals to join the moving train will be opened in due course. Further details on the registration process will be announced at the appropriate time. We encourage everyone to stay tuned for updates,” he stated.

Alabi called on students, professionals, artisans, entrepreneurs, members of the Oyo diaspora and volunteers interested in community development to join the initiative through social media engagement, grassroots campaigns and civic participation.

He said the movement’s core message is anchored on the belief that “The future belongs to those who are prepared to build it. Together, we move the state forward.”

The BASE Movement also outlined its key objectives, which include mobilising young people to participate in governance, creating a direct link between youth concerns and political leadership, developing a network of emerging young leaders, promoting volunteerism and innovation, and projecting Adekanmbi as a leader committed to the aspirations of the next generation.

The launch of the BASE movement marks the formal commencement of what the coordinators described as a statewide youth mobilisation campaign in support of Adekanmbi’s political vision for Oyo State ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
