Oyo State Better Education Service Delivery for All Additional Financing-Transforming Education Systems at State Level (BESDA AF-TESS) on Thursday, took a significant step towards improving education standard in the state by training 132 School-Based Management Committees on the management of infrastructural facilities and various projects in renovated schools in their communities.

Speaking at a 2 -day training programme held at Providence Arena, Akobo,Ibadan,the Special Adviser to the Governor on Education Intervention,Oloye Suraj Tiamiyu, said that the training was aimed at enhancing the quality of education in Oyo State.

He explained that the training focused on community-driven development approaches for which will enable the committee members to effectively manage the schools being renovated and ensure that projects are completed on time and within budget.

He added that the initiative demonstrates the state government’s commitment to involving members of the communities in the decision-making process and ensuring that available infrastructure meets the needs of students and teachers.

He said :the school-Based Management Committees (SBMC), who are the community stakeholders will support the government in monitoring and protecting infrastructure put in place by the Oyo government through the BESDA programme.

In his remarks, the Oyo State Project Coordinator, Dr. Bamidele Odekunle said the School Management-Based Committee (SMBC) are the people being trained on how to manage the renovated schools as expected.

He said the training is in line with the condition from global partnership for education, that the renovation should be handled via a community development approach.

According to him, the aims of the BESDA AF-TESS) are to have equitable access for all Children, every child should be taken to the school no matter the category.

“Also, the project intends to develop the pedagogical skills of the teachers by training them.

“Moreso,the renovation of the schools would make the atmosphere of the schools more conducive for teachers and students.

“The School Management-Based Committee (SMBC) are the people being trained today on how to manage the facilities being renovated in various Schools.

“The Communities are expected to take charge of the renovation of the Schools in their area.
Hence,there is a need to be trained on steps they are expected to take, this is the essence of this training.

“The School Based Management Committee of 33 Schools comprising 4 members per school, which are: SBMC Chairman; Head Teacher; Women Leader; One other SBMC Member, making 132 SBMC Members .

Joseph Muyiwa , who spoke on behalf of the participants, thanked the state government and World Bank for incorporating community members in executing the projects .

He affirmed that all the infrastructure being put in place will aid learning of the children as well as improve the teaching ability of the teachers.
