A leading House of Representatives aspirant for Ibadan North-West/Ibadan South-West Federal Constituency, Dr. Abimbola Abogun, has dumped the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State and joined the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), declaring support for the presidential ambition of Governor Seyi Makinde ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Abogun formally announced his defection on Monday at a political gathering in Ibadan, where he was received into the APM by the King of Boys, Otunba Seye Famojuro, a close ally of Governor Makinde and a prominent figure within the party.

His defection was facilitated by former member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Saheed Akinade Fijabi, who described Abogun’s entry into the party as a significant development capable of strengthening the APM’s political structure in Oyo State.

Speaking during the event, Abogun said his decision to leave the APC was informed by his desire to associate with a platform that aligns with his political vision and commitment to the development of Oyo State and Nigeria.
“I have taken this decision after wide consultations and careful consideration. The APM offers a credible platform for progressive politics, and I am convinced that it represents the aspirations of many people who desire purposeful leadership and sustainable development,” he said.
The former APC chieftain commended Governor Makinde for what he described as outstanding leadership and transformational governance, noting that the governor’s achievements have continued to attract support from across political divides.
According to him, Makinde’s performance in office has demonstrated capacity, vision and competence, qualities he believes are necessary for national leadership at a critical time in Nigeria’s history.
“Governor Seyi Makinde has shown exceptional leadership in Oyo State through his commitment to infrastructure development, economic growth and human capital advancement. I wholeheartedly support his presidential ambition because I believe he has the experience and capability to lead Nigeria to greater heights,” Abogun stated.
He also pledged to work tirelessly for the success of the APM and contribute to the party’s efforts to expand its influence across Oyo State ahead of future elections.
Abogun further declared support for the party’s governorship candidate, Abimbola Adekanmbi, as well as the APM candidate for Oyo South Senatorial district and House of Representatives candidate, urging party members to remain united and focused on securing victory in 2027.
