The Oyo State Government has approved another ₦3 billion for the payment of outstanding gratuities and death benefits to more than1,000 retired primary school teachers and local government workers.
Hon. Akeem Ademola Ige, Chairman of the Local Government Staff Pension Board, announced this during the disbursement ceremony at the flag off held at Mapo Hall in Ibadan South East Local Government.
According to Ige, “the funding forms part of Governor Seyi Makinde’s ongoing commitment to systematically clear inherited pension backlogs through structured monthly allocations.
Ige who urged retirees to prioritize their personal well-being and exercise caution against risky investments, called on the pensioners to reciprocate Governor Makinde’s gesture by voting for candidates of the Allied People’s Movement (APM) during the upcoming 2027 general elections so as to continue to enjoy good governance in the state.

The chairman of the council, Hon. Emmanuel Alawode commended the Governor Makinde administration’s worker-centric policies, urging state employees and retirees to maintain industrial harmony and support for the government.
Some of the beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the governor’s continued focus on pensioners’ welfare.
The highlight of the event was the symbolic presentation of the cheque to beneficiaries.
