The establishment of the Forest Rangers subunit demonstrates Governor Seyi Makinde’s commitment to addressing the pressing security challenges in Oyo State, particularly in its expansive forest regions. With forests often being hotspots for criminal activities such as kidnapping, banditry, and illegal logging, this specialized unit is expected to complement the main Amotekun Corps in fortifying security across the state.

The decision to deploy Forest Rangers in 25 local government areas ensures a wide-reaching impact, covering critical zones where insecurity has been a persistent issue. Equipped with training tailored to forest terrain operations, the rangers are poised to respond effectively to threats, fostering a safer environment for residents and businesses.

Additionally, the approval of hazard allowances for all Amotekun Corps members reflects the state government’s recognition of the risks involved in their duties and aims to boost morale and commitment among the personnel. This financial incentive underscores the administration’s acknowledgment of their critical role in the state’s security architecture.

Governor Makinde has made significant strides in bolstering security in Oyo State. He has provided a range of essential equipment, including operational vehicles, walkie-talkies, steel helmets, bulletproof jackets, and combat boots, to enhance the effectiveness of security personnel.

One of his most notable achievements is the establishment of the Southwestern Security Network, codenamed AMOTEKUN, launched on January 9th, 2020. This initiative marked a pivotal moment in regional security efforts. Governor Makinde, in collaboration with other Southwest governors, championed this initiative, successfully launching it in Ibadan.

The AMOTEKUN initiative demonstrates Governor Makinde’s commitment to addressing regional security challenges. By working together with other governors, he has helped create a robust security framework that benefits the entire Southwest region.

Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration has implemented a multi-faceted security strategy, bolstering Oyo State’s security architecture and positioning it as a leader in regional security efforts. The establishment of the Police Mobile Force (PMF) Squadron at Ago-Are in Atisbo South West LCDA has enhanced security presence in the area. Additionally, the deployment of Army officers to Oyo State Forest Reserves for a Forward Operation Base has strengthened security in the region.

The Safe School initiative has been implemented, incorporating security cameras in secondary schools to ensure student safety. Communication equipment has also been provided for operational vehicles and personnel to facilitate effective communication.Security personnel have been stationed at exit and entry points across the state to monitor and control movement.

Furthermore, dilapidated and burnt-down police stations have been renovated to provide a conducive working environment for security personnel.

The administration has also provided financial support for welfare and running costs to ensure the well-being of security personnel. Regular servicing of patrol vehicles is ensured to maintain their operational efficiency.

Allowances for officers on patrol and pin-down duties have been provided, along with increments in ration allowances extended to all security agencies. Accommodation has also been provided for security commanders from agencies like NDLEA, NSCDC, and Nigeria Immigration.

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State took a significant step towards enhancing security in the state by handing over 100 additional Kia Rio operational vehicles to security agencies on January 10, 2024.

These vehicles, equipped with cutting-edge communication gadgets, were distributed among various agencies, including the Police, Operation Burst, DSS, Correctional Service, Oyo Amotekun, and the Oyo State Road Traffic Management Authority (OYRTMA)

This donation brings the total number of vehicles handed over to security agencies in Oyo State to 650, with 550 vehicles previously donated from 2019 onwards. This remarkable achievement solidifies Governor Makinde’s commitment to prioritizing security and making Oyo State one of the safest places in Nigeria.

By providing these essential resources, Governor Makinde is empowering security agencies to effectively respond to challenges and maintain peace and order in the state.

These comprehensive security measures demonstrate Governor Makinde’s commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of Oyo State residents, making it a model for effective security governance in the region.
