The ancient town of Ayete was agog on Sunday as prominent sons and daughters of Ibarapa land, Islamic clerics, traditional rulers, and community leaders gathered for the installation and conferment of the revered title of Aare Musulumi of Ayete on Hon. Lateef Akorede. The event was described by many as a celebration of service, humility, and commitment to the growth of Islam and the people of Ibarapa.

The decision to confer the title on Hon. Akorede was unanimously endorsed by the Ayete Muslim community and traditional institutions. According to the leaders, the choice was based on his long-standing support for Islamic activities, his philanthropic gestures, and his dedication to community development across Ibarapa Central and Ibarapa North. They said the title is not just an honor but a recognition of a man who has consistently identified with the needs of the people.

Speaking during the ceremony, elders of the Ayete Muslim community recalled how Hon. Akorede has over the years sponsored Qur’anic competitions, supported the building and renovation of mosques, and provided assistance to widows, orphans, and indigent students. They noted that he has remained accessible to the people and has used his platform to promote peace and unity within and outside Ayete. The leaders expressed confidence that with the new responsibility, he will do even more to strengthen the Muslim community and promote religious harmony in Ibarapa land.

Community stakeholders also described Hon. Akorede as an exceptional son of Ibarapa whose contributions go beyond religious circles. They referenced his interventions in education through scholarship support, his empowerment programs for youths and women, and his consistent presence during community challenges. They said Ibarapa is blessed to have individuals like him who understand that leadership is about service and not self. They added that his elevation to Aare Musulumi Ayete will further position him to attract more development and support to Ayete and other towns in Ibarapa.

In his acceptance speech, Hon. Akorede thanked Allah, the Ayete Muslim community, the traditional council, and all well-wishers for finding him worthy of the title. He described the honor as a sacred trust and a call to greater service. He pledged to work closely with Islamic leaders, traditional rulers, and community stakeholders to promote the values of Islam, foster unity, and support initiatives that will uplift the people. He said his doors will remain open to all, and that he will continue to support programs that encourage education, moral uprightness, and economic empowerment among Muslims and non-Muslims alike in Ibarapa.

Traditional rulers and political leaders present offered prayers for the new Aare Musulumi. They prayed for Allah’s guidance, protection, and provision upon him, and urged him to use the position to unite the people and advance the cause of Islam. The clerics also emphasized the importance of the title, saying it comes with responsibility to be a bridge between the government, the people, and the Muslim community.

Residents who attended the ceremony expressed joy and optimism. Many said they expect the new Aare Musulumi to facilitate more support for Islamic schools, healthcare initiatives, and social welfare programs in Ayete and across Ibarapa communities. Market women, youth groups, and artisans who spoke at the event said Hon. Akorede has always been a listening leader and they trust that he will use the title to bring more opportunities to the grassroots.

With this conferment, Hon. Lateef Akorede joins the list of distinguished leaders in Ibarapa land who have been honored for their service to humanity. The general sentiment in Ayete and across Ibarapa is that the title came at the right time and that the new Aare Musulumi Ayete will add more value to Ibarapa communities through his continued commitment to faith, unity, and development.
