The Executive Chairman of Ibadan South-West Local Government, Hon. Kehinde Adeyemi Akande, has been honoured with the Peace, Security and Good Governance Award by the EveryYouth in Politics initiative.
The prestigious award was conferred on him in recognition of his outstanding contributions to grassroots politics, exemplary leadership and commitment to good governance.
According to the organizers, Hon. Akande emerged after a thorough and painstaking assessment of his administration’s strides in maintaining peace and order, strengthening the local security architecture and entrenching principles of good governance in Ibadan South-West Local Government Area.
They observed that under his leadership, the council has enjoyed relative peace and stability, improved youth engagement and people-oriented policies that prioritize the welfare and well-being of residents.
Speaking during the presentation ceremony, representative of EveryYouth in Politics, Mr. Omisore explained that the initiative was established to identify, encourage and celebrate young, vibrant and result-oriented leaders who are using their offices to make positive impacts in society.
They described Hon. Akande as a youth-friendly and accessible Chairman whose open-door policy, inclusive governance style and proactive approach to issues have endeared him to the people of Ibadan South-West and beyond.
In a related development, all security outfits in Ibadan South-West Local Government have also commended Hon. Akande for his immense contributions to the security architecture of the local government.
The heads of the Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Police Force, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Amotekun Corps and the Vigilante Network Group, in their separate remarks, lauded the Chairman for his consistent support, synergy and provision of logistics that have enhanced effective policing and crime prevention across the council area.
They noted that Hon. Akande’s administration has prioritized security as a bedrock for development, stressing that his collaborative approach with all security agencies has helped in sustaining peace and protecting lives and property in Ibadan South-West.
Responding after receiving the award, Hon. Kehinde Akande expressed profound gratitude to the organizers and the security agencies for finding him worthy of the honour.
He dedicated the award to the good people of Ibadan South-West Local Government, the management and staff of the council, and the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde, for providing an enabling environment for local government administration to thrive.
Hon. Akande noted that the recognition will spur him to do more in the areas of youth empowerment, enhanced security and effective delivery of democratic dividends, reiterating his administration’s unwavering commitment to peace, progress and development.
He further urged Nigerian youths to actively participate in politics and governance, stressing that meaningful youth involvement remains critical to nation-building and sustainable development.
The award presentation was witnessed by youth leaders, political stakeholders, security chiefs and well-wishers who congratulated the Chairman, describing the honour as well-deserved and a testament to his purposeful leadership.
