The political atmosphere in Ibadan North-West Local Government came alive on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, as the Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM) officially launched “People’s Mandate 2026”, with Hon. Ganiy Abiodun Omotosho formally declaring his intention to contest for the Chairmanship of Ibadan North-West Local Government.

The declaration, held in Okebadan LCDA, attracted a large gathering of party leaders, stakeholders, executive members, elected political office holders and supporters from across the local government.

The event brought together prominent political leaders, including Alhaji R.A. Badmus, Alhaji R.A. Afolabi, Alhaji Dauda Fasisi, Alhaji Mojeed Oladejo, Alhaji Semiu Ademoye, Alhaji Popoola, Otunba Segun Adebanjo, Alhaji Tirimisiyu, and several other party stalwarts.

Also in attendance were local government party executive officers, ward executive officers, councillors, supervisory councillors, special assistants and other political functionaries, who engaged in an interactive session where questions, observations and opinions were entertained.

The programme commenced with a welcome address by the PDP-APM Chairman of Ibadan North-West Local Government, Hon. Kazeem Fantola, who commended party members for their unity and urged them to remain focused on strengthening the party ahead of the forthcoming local government elections.

In his declaration speech, Hon. Ganiy Abiodun Omotosho, a former Caretaker Political Head of Okebadan LCDA and former Vice Chairman of Ibadan North-West Local Government/Political Head of Okebadan LCDA, described leadership as a sacred responsibility built on service, integrity and commitment to the people.

“I stand before you today as your son, born and raised in Ibadan, a true son of Ibadan North-West. I know our people, I understand our challenges, and together we can build a local government that works for everyone,” he declared.

Omotosho unveiled his People’s Mandate 2026 Agenda, anchored on two strategic pillars: Human Capacity Development and Community Development.

Under Human Capacity Development, he pledged to prioritise education, economic empowerment, youth and women empowerment, support for traders and artisans, improved healthcare services, and enhanced welfare and capacity building for local government workers.

According to him, government exists to empower people, noting that sustainable development begins with investing in human potential.

On Community Development, the chairmanship aspirant promised aggressive investment in road rehabilitation, drainage construction, environmental sanitation, potable water supply, improved markets, street lighting, security and other infrastructure capable of improving the standard of living of residents.

He further stressed that no individual owns the party, calling on members to embrace healthy competition, unity and internal democracy.

“Every aspirant has the constitutional right to contest. We are one political family. Competition should strengthen us, not divide us. After the contest, victory belongs to all of us,” Omotosho said.

Expressing appreciation to party leaders, stakeholders, executives, supporters, family members and members of his campaign team, he reaffirmed his commitment to transparent, inclusive and people-oriented governance if elected.
