Comments made by former Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, during an interview on Channels TV on Monday, 22nd June 2026, have continued to generate reactions across Oyo State, with residents from different zones and towns expressing views on his remarks and restating support for Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration.

In the television interview, Fayose was quoted making critical comments about Gov. Makinde and the direction of governance in Oyo State, prompting responses from citizens in Ibadan, Oyo, Ogbomoso, Ibarapa, and Oke-Ogun areas.

In Ibadan North, Mr. Tunde Adewale, a trader at Bodija Market, said Fayose’s comments were not needed in the state’s current political climate. “Ayo Fayose is an irritant. We will keep supporting Governor Seyi Makinde for what he has done to Oyo State, roads, education, health, and security.

We are seeing new roads and renovated schools in our area, and that is what matters to us,” he said.

Mrs. Risikat Oladipo, a resident of Apata in Ibadan South West Local Government, also weighed in, noting that primary healthcare upgrades in her community have made a difference. “Since the health centre near us was renovated, our mothers and children get treatment faster.

We do not want distractions from people outside Oyo State. We will keep supporting Makinde,” she said. Mr. Dele Ogundiran, a youth leader in Ibadan North East, added that continuity of projects is important to residents.

“The flyovers and road expansions in Ibadan have reduced traffic for us. We want leaders who focus on work, not quarrels,” he stated.

From Oyo town in Oyo Central, Mrs. Bose Alabi, a food vendor at Akesan Market, stated that the governor’s focus on infrastructure should be encouraged. “Those gathering with people who do not want the progress of Oyo State will be disgraced.

Makinde has shown commitment and we are seeing the results in our communities. The roads from Oyo to Ibadan have improved, and that helps our business,” she said. Chief Adegoke Adeyemi, a community leader in Oyo East, added that residents are more concerned with development than disagreements. “What we want is continuity of good work.

The governor has invested in education and agriculture, and we the people of Oyo Central appreciate that.

Our children are benefiting from school renovations,” he said. Miss Tosin Adebayo, a graduate in Oyo town, said job creation programs have helped many young people in the area.

In Ogbomoso, Oyo North, Mr. Sunday Olaniyi, a commercial driver at Garage Oluwo, said Fayose’s remarks do not reflect the opinion of most residents in the zone. “We in Ogbomoso are happy with the road projects and the upgrades at Ladoke Akintola University. Fayose should face Ekiti politics and leave Oyo people to decide who they want. We will keep supporting Seyi Makinde,” he stated. Miss Funmilayo Ajayi, a student at LAUTECH, also shared her view: “As a student, I have seen changes in my school.

More facilities, better environment. We need leaders who will build, not those who will scatter what is working.” Pa Adebayo Okunade, an elder in Ogbomoso South, noted that security improvements have made travel safer for traders and farmers in the zone.

Residents in Ibarapa East also responded. Pa Samuel Adeyemo, a farmer in Eruwa, said agricultural support programs under the current administration have helped local farmers.

“Government gave us seedlings and training last season. That is progress. We do not know what Fayose wants, but Oyo people know who is working for them. We stand with Makinde,” he said. In Lanlate, Mrs. Morenike Salami, a teacher, said the renovation of schools in Ibarapa has improved learning conditions.

“Our classrooms were bad before, but now the pupils have better chairs and roofs that do not leak. That is real progress, and we will continue to support the governor,” she said. Mr. Lateef Jimoh, a motorcyclist in Igbo-Ora, said road repairs in Ibarapa have reduced accidents and transportation costs.

From Saki in Oke-Ogun, Mr. Ibrahim Babatunde, a businessman at Saki New Market, said the zone has also benefited from recent government projects. “Oke-Ogun people are not forgotten anymore. Roads and health centres are coming.

Fayose’s comments will not change our mind. We will keep supporting Seyi Makinde for what he has done,” he said. Mrs. Esther Oyelade, a resident of Iseyin, added that unity is important at this time.

“Those gathering with people who do not want the progress of Oyo State will be disgraced. We want peace and development. The governor should continue his good work,” she said. Chief Kamorudeen Arowolo, a community leader in Kishi, said major projects in Oke-Ogun communities have improved access for residents.

Gov. Makinde, first elected in 2019 and re-elected in 2023, has continued to commission projects across the state’s five zones, with focus on road infrastructure, healthcare facility upgrades, education, and agriculture. The Oyo State Government, through its communication channels, has continued to publicize ongoing work under the “Omituntun 2.0” agenda.

“Residents are aware of those who think they can still teleguide us from afar, but such efforts will end in failure,” other citizens said. “The masses are wiser now than before. Nobody can sit in one place and dictate how we should think or who we should support. We have seen what the government is doing in our communities, and we can judge for ourselves. We’ve also watched closely those who are supposed to be father figures and leaders of experience, yet they keep moving from one pole to another depending on where the wind is blowing. That kind of inconsistency does not inspire confidence. Oyo people want stability and progress, not confusion or interference.”
