A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on Monday has restrained the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) from arresting a Chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress in Ondo State, Hon. Demola Ijabiyi.

It would be recalled that Senator Jimoh Ibrahim (APC-Ondo South) had written to the anti-graft agency, seeking the arrest of Ijabiyi over allegations of corruption.

Jimoh, who was an aspirant in the last Ondo APC governorship primary, dragged Ijabiyi who was his politcal ally to court after he lost the election to Gov. Luck Aiyedatiwa.

As things conspicuosly fell apart between the duo, ijabiyi approached the court, praying for his fundamental human rights.

In the latest development, the court restrained Senator Jimoh Ibrahim from pursuing the arrest of Hon. Demola Ijabiyi.

In an ex parte motion filed by Barr Tosin Ojaomo a human rights lawyer, Ijabiyi had requested an order asking all the parties to maintain the status quo.

The court granted the order when it was moved on Monday. Also affected by the order are the attorney general of the federation and the inspector general of police. The order will subsist until the determination of the originating motion pending before the court.

In the lawsuit, Ijabiyi is asking for the enforcement of his fundamental human rights, N500 million in damages and N20 million in costs.
