The Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Irepo Local Government Chapter, on Thursday recorded a significant political milestone as its General Meeting attracted a massive turnout of members and supporters, with several prominent political figures and their followers formally defecting from the All Progressives Congress (APC), the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and other political parties to the APM.
The meeting, described as one of the largest in recent times, reaffirmed the growing acceptance of the party ahead of the forthcoming elections, as the defectors unanimously declared their unwavering support for Hon. Saliu Sarafadeen Ayinde (Sasay) and all APM candidates.
Speaking on behalf of the new members, Mr. Abdulsalam Yunus Ariyo from Ward 03, who previously served as the Campaign Coordinator for former Vice President Prof. Yemi Osinbajo and also coordinated the campaign of Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe in the old Irepo Federal Constituency, declared his total commitment to the party.
“Today, we have made a conscious decision to join the Allied Peoples Movement because we believe in its vision and the quality of its candidates. We are fully committed to working tirelessly for the success of Hon. Saliu Sarafadeen Ayinde (Sasay) and all APM candidates, and we will mobilise our supporters to ensure victory at the polls,” he said.

Other notable defectors welcomed into the party included Mrs. Medinat Okanlawon (Iya Kofosi), a prominent APC member from Ward 04; Mrs. Afusat Adewale (Iya Koko) from Ward 06 and her supporters; Mr. Hammed Oladimeji, popularly known as Ibadan from Ward 10, who abandoned the Gbolarumi-led PDP with his group; Mr. Yakubu Muftaudeen from Ward 10 and his supporters, alongside many other political stakeholders who also declared their allegiance to the APM and pledged to work tirelessly for the victory of Sasay and every APM candidate in the forthcoming elections.
Welcoming the new members, the Executive Chairman of Irepo Local Government, Hon. Tunde Taoheed Olayiwola, the Irepo PDP-APM Chairman, Hon. Olawoyin Kunle Kazeem (Olumoyin), and other party stakeholders expressed appreciation for their confidence in the party. They assured the defectors of equal opportunities, unity, and inclusiveness, stressing that everyone would work together as one family and collectively share in the victories and achievements that lie ahead. The party leadership urged all members to remain steadfast and committed to strengthening the APM across all wards in Irepo Local Government to secure victory for Sasay and all other APM candidates.
