The Allied People’s Movement (APM) in Ogbomoso recorded a major boost on Friday as renowned academic, political figure and former Commissioner for Works and Transport, Prof. Raphael Afonja formally returned to the party from the All Progressives Congress (APC), signaling growing confidence in the party’s prospects ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Prof. Afonja was received by prominent party leaders and stakeholders at a gathering attended by the Executive Chairman of Ogbomoso North Local Government, Hon. George Ogunlade; the immediate past Chairman of Ogbomoso North Local Government, Alhaji Kabir Akanji; Chairman of the Oyo State Local Government Service Commission, Bashorun Akinwale Akinwole; Alhaji Lukman Alaga Mewa; Hon. Jide Oketunbi; and other party faithful.

Speaking during the event, party leaders described Prof. Afonja’s return as a significant development that further strengthens the party’s structure and electoral chances across Ogbomoso and Oyo State. They noted that his wealth of experience, influence, and commitment to progressive politics would be invaluable as the party prepares for the forthcoming elections.

The leaders assured Prof. Afonja of a warm welcome and reiterated the party’s commitment to carrying every member along in its quest to provide credible leadership and quality representation for the people. They also pledged their collective support for all candidates flying the party’s flag in the 2027 elections.

The event was marked by renewed calls for unity, grassroots mobilization, and sustained engagement with the electorate as the party intensifies preparations for the next electoral cycle. Stakeholders expressed optimism that the return of notable figures such as Prof. Afonja would further consolidate the APM’s growing popularity and strengthen its position across the state.
