The Allied Peoples Movement, APM, in Ibadan South West Local Government has affirmed its consensus candidates for the Chairmanship, Vice Chairmanship and all 12 Councillorship positions ahead of the forthcoming local government elections in Oyo State.
The affirmation, which took place in Ibadan, marks the conclusion of the party’s internal consultation process aimed at presenting a united front and fielding credible candidates with grassroots appeal.
Hon. Idris Adewale Akanbi was affirmed as the party’s consensus Chairmanship candidate, while Hon. Hassan Abolaji Bello emerged as the consensus Vice Chairman candidate.
The party also affirmed its councillorship flagbearers across the 12 wards of the local government. They are:

– Ward 1: Oyayanju Hawaw Bola
– Ward 2: Olayiwola Olaitan Olalekan
– Ward 3: Ashipa Kazeem Opeyemi
– Ward 4: Adetunji Wareez Adigun
– Ward 5: Oladimeji Fatai Olanrewaju
– Ward 6: Rasaki Adeniran Suleiman
– Ward 7: Ismaila Wahab
– Ward 8: Seriki Idris Abiodun
– Ward 9: Iyanda Kabiru Abayomi
– Ward 10: Raheem Ganiyu Adebayo
– Ward 11: Akinola Ibrahim Olalekan
– Ward 12: Jagun Gbolagade Adebowale
Party leaders described the list as a reflection of balance, experience and grassroots connection, noting that the candidates cut across different demographics and have track records of service in their respective communities.
Addressing the candidates and party stakeholders, Dr. Nureni Adeniran charged the newly affirmed flagbearers to extend hands of fellowship to other aspirants and to carry everyone along in the interest of the party. He emphasized that victory in the forthcoming polls will depend on cohesion and collective effort.
He prayed for renewal, strength and divine guidance for the candidates, and urged all party members to uphold unity, discipline and loyalty across the party structure in Ibadan South West.
Also speaking, Pastor Abiodun Popoola, State Assistant Secretary of APM, called on members to continue to give undiluted support to the administration of Governor Seyi Makinde. He said the governor’s people-oriented policies provide a strong platform for APM candidates to campaign on, and urged the party to align with the vision of good governance at the state level.
In his remarks, the consensus Chairmanship candidate, Hon. Idris Adewale Akanbi, who spoke on behalf of himself and the councillorship candidates, called for peace and unity across party lines. He pledged to meet with all aspirants who contested for the tickets to ensure that no one is left behind.
According to him, the task ahead requires teamwork, and he promised an inclusive administration that will prioritize the welfare of residents at the grassroots.
“We must work together to deliver from ward level to national level. APM must win all elective positions in Ibadan South West, and that can only happen when we are united,” he said.
He further charged party members to intensify mobilization in their wards, engage with voters, and sell the party’s message of transparency, accountability and development-driven governance.
The Executive Chairman of Ibadan South West Local Government, Hon. Kehinde Akande, thanked all party members for their commitment and maturity during the consultation process. He called for total cohesion among leaders, aspirants and supporters.
Hon. Akande prayed for a peaceful, free and fair election process, and expressed confidence that with unity and hard work, APM will emerge victorious across all positions in the local government.
Party stakeholders present at the affirmation expressed optimism that the consensus arrangement will strengthen APM’s chances and deepen its connection with the people of Ibadan South West ahead of the polls.
