Akande breaks ground for 500-capacity CBT centre in Ibadan South West LG …St Theresa College, Oke Ado to host one of the largest Computer Based Test facilities in Ibadan

It was a historic day for education in Oke Ado as Hon. Akande turned the sod for the construction and equipping of a 500-capacity Computer Based Test, CBT, Centre at St Theresa College, Oke Ado, Ibadan.

The groundbreaking ceremony, held on Wednesday at the premises of the 115-year-old St Theresa College, drew government officials, educators, and community stakeholders who described the project as a game-changer for students in Ibadan SouthWest and beyond.

Speaking at the event, Hon. Akande said the CBT centre was conceived to bridge the digital gap and prepare secondary school students, as well as tertiary admission seekers in the local government, for the demands of modern examinations.

“This is more than just a building. This is an investment in our children’s future,” Akande stated. “For too long, our students have travelled long distances and paid heavily to sit for JAMB, WAEC CBT, and other professional exams. With this 500-capacity centre right here in Oke Ado, we are bringing opportunity closer to the people.”

The proposed facility will be fully equipped with 500 computer systems, solar power backup, air conditioning, high-speed internet, and a server room to ensure seamless conduct of computer-based examinations.

According to the project scope, the centre will serve students for JAMB, WAEC, NECO, professional certification exams, and digital literacy training for teachers and youths in the local government.

The stakeholders thanked Hon. Akande and the local government for choosing the school as the host. They noted that the college has a long tradition of academic excellence and the CBT centre will further position it as a hub for 21st-century learning.

Community leaders and parents at the event hailed the initiative, saying it will reduce examination malpractice, cut costs for families, and create jobs for ICT instructors and technicians in the area.

Construction work is expected to commence immediately, with a projected completion timeline of few months.

The sod-turning marks one of the first 500-capacity CBT centres to be sited in a public secondary school in Ibadan, a move stakeholders say aligns with Governor Seyi Makinde’s focus on education and digital transformation.
