The Governorship Candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the 2027 Oyo State Governorship Election, Olooye Adegboyega Taofeek Adegoke FCA, Aare Egbe Omo Balogun of Ibadanland, has expressed deep concern over the worsening security situation in Oyo State, describing the recent spate of kidnappings and violent crimes as alarming and unacceptable.

Adegoke particularly commiserated with the family of former Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, over the reported abduction of his sister, Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul, and her twin sons in Ibadan.

He described the incident as painful and disturbing, noting that the growing wave of kidnappings across the state has become a serious threat to the safety and wellbeing of residents.

“My thoughts and prayers are with the Adelabu family at this difficult moment. No family should be subjected to such trauma and uncertainty. This unfortunate incident further highlights the urgent need for decisive and coordinated action against criminal elements terrorising our communities,” Adegoke stated.

The ADC governorship hopeful stressed that the protection of lives and property remains the foremost responsibility of government, urging both the Federal Government and the Oyo State Government to strengthen intelligence gathering, improve inter-agency collaboration, deploy modern security technology and provide adequate logistical support for security agencies.

According to him, the increasing frequency of kidnappings and violent attacks across the state could undermine public confidence, economic activities and social stability if urgent measures are not taken.

“Oyo State has always been known for peace, stability and progress. We cannot allow criminals to turn our communities, roads and institutions into theatres of fear. This is the time for decisive action, not rhetoric. Every life matters, and every citizen deserves to feel safe,” he said.

Adegoke further appealed to security agencies to intensify rescue operations and ensure the safe return of all abducted victims while bringing perpetrators of these heinous crimes to justice.

The Aare Egbe Omo Balogun of Ibadanland also recalled the abduction of pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area, an incident that had earlier drawn his attention and concern. He noted that he had consistently called for urgent intervention to secure the release of the victims and prevent a recurrence of such attacks on educational institutions.

“Together, we must save Oyo State from the growing threat of insecurity and build a society where every resident can live, work and learn without fear. The victims in Oriire, the Adelabu family and countless other affected families deserve justice, protection and renewed hope for a safer future,” he concluded.
