In every political season, there are moments when the true character of our politics is revealed, not through policy debates or ideological differences, but through calculated attempts to undermine individuals whose only “offence” may be loyalty, ambition, or rising influence.

The recent rumours and allegations surrounding the Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Adebo Ogundoyin, fall squarely into this troubling category.

From allegations of bribery to whispers of impeachment and subtle pressure for him to abandon his governorship ambition, the unfolding narrative raises more questions than answers.

Why is the Speaker suddenly the target of such intense political hostility?

Why would a man who has maintained a consistent and loyal relationship with Seyi Makinde suddenly decide to betray the very administration he has stood with for years?

What exactly is the real motive behind these rumours?

These are questions that the people of Oyo State deserve answers to.

Beyond the surface of these allegations lies a deeper political undertone, one that appears driven by powerful interests who seem uncomfortable with the steady rise of a young leader whose political journey has been built on resilience, loyalty, and service.

It is important to remember that Rt. Hon. Ogundoyin is not just another politician. He is a young man who rose through adversity, an orphan who fought his way through the difficult terrain of Nigerian politics and eventually emerged as Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly.

That journey was not handed to him on a silver platter.

It was built through sacrifice, persistence, and the trust of the people who elected him.

Yet today, that very journey appears to be under attack.

Rumours continue to circulate that certain influential figures, among them the revered monarch, Rashidi Ladoja, and the former First Lady of the state, Florence Ajimobi, are deeply interested in shaping the political future of the state in ways that may not favour the Speaker.

Both personalities command respect in Oyo State and have long political histories.

But respect should never shield anyone from honest public reflection when political actions appear capable of harming the future of another.

One is an elder statesman whose political appetite, many would say, remains insatiable despite his already distinguished journey in public life.

The other is a powerful political figure who once wielded enormous influence in the state, someone who had the rare privilege of acting as a de facto deputy governor during her husband’s administration and who many now refer to as “Mama ni interest.”

There is nothing wrong with parents desiring political progress for their children.

Every father and mother naturally wants to see their children succeed and advance in life.

But at what point does that desire begin to collide with fairness, justice, and the collective good?

Should the political future of one young leader be sacrificed simply to create space for the ambitions of others?

Should an orphan who painstakingly built his career through dedication, loyalty, and service suddenly become the target of political elimination?

These are questions that cannot simply be ignored.

It is particularly troubling that whispers of impeachment or subtle pressure for the Speaker to abandon his governorship ambition are now circulating within the political atmosphere of the state.

If these rumours hold any truth, then the situation becomes even more concerning.

Politics should be a contest of ideas, vision, and leadership, not a battlefield where rising leaders are quietly pushed aside through intimidation or calculated manoeuvres.

The Speaker has already stated clearly that he rejected any form of inducement and reaffirmed his loyalty to Governor Makinde.

His record of cooperation with the executive arm of government speaks clearly for itself.

So once again, the question must be asked:

Why would a man who has served loyally under an administration suddenly turn around to betray it?

Why would he compromise the very relationship that has defined his political career and leadership?

The answer appears obvious.

He wouldn’t.

Which is precisely why many observers believe that these allegations are less about facts and more about political positioning.

Those who operate from the shadows, throwing stones of destruction while hiding their hands, must remember one fundamental truth about power:

Power is temporary.

Every office holder today will one day become part of history.

Titles fade. Positions change. Influence declines.

But what remains long after the power is gone is the story that people tell about us.

When that time comes, what will be said?

Will history remember leaders who nurtured and supported the next generation, or those who attempted to suppress and destroy it?

Will it remember fairness, or political intimidation?

As young people, as observers, and as stakeholders in the future of Oyo State, we cannot afford to stand aloof while an innocent man is pushed under the bus of political convenience.

Leadership must never become a tool for silencing ambition.

And politics must never become a system where only the powerful determine who deserves to rise.

The political future of Oyo State does not belong only to the established power brokers; it also belongs to the next generation of leaders who are willing to serve with sincerity, courage, and commitment.

Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin represents one of those possibilities.

If anyone disagrees with his ambition, the democratic path is simple and clear: compete politically, present a better vision, and allow the people to decide.

That is what democracy demands.

Anything less risks turning politics into a battlefield where influence replaces fairness and intimidation replaces competition.

And that would be a tragedy, not just for the Speaker, but for the future of Oyo State itself.
