The 2026 edition of the Amala Festival is set to receive a major boost as the Oyo State Agency for Youth Development moves towards deeper collaboration with the organisers, with a proposed joint committee expected to strengthen planning, coordination and youth participation in the festival.
The development followed a visit by the Amala Festival team to the Chairman of the Oyo State Agency for Youth Development, Hon. Adebowale Adebayo Falana, as the organisers sought his continued support for this year’s edition.
Falana has been involved in supporting the festival by helping connect the event with government resources and assets since the third edition, according to the organisers.
The proposed partnership is expected to give Amala Festival 5.0 – Roots, Royalty & Rhythm a broader community and youth-development dimension while creating additional opportunities for young people, food entrepreneurs, vendors, cultural practitioners and businesses across Oyo State.

The Oyo State Agency for Youth Development is officially mandated to support youth capacity building, coordinate youth organisations and establish programmes that promote the economic, social and cultural empowerment of young people. The agency is also officially listed among the agencies under the Oyo State Ministry of Youth and Sports.
Falana, who is the current Chairman of the agency, has consistently emphasised youth empowerment, entrepreneurship, skills development and meaningful participation in the development of Oyo State.
Celebrating Amala From Across Oyo State
Speaking on the proposed collaboration, Falana said the festival would showcase some of the finest expressions of Amala cuisine from different parts of the state.
> “We are going to bring in the best brand of Amala dishes that each zone in Oyo State has to offer for the attendees this year.”
According to the organisers, visitors should expect to experience distinctive Amala dishes associated with Oyo, Ibadan, Ibarapa and Ogbomoso, giving food lovers an opportunity to appreciate the different culinary identities and traditions represented across the state.
The idea aligns with the festival’s broader objective of using food, culture, entertainment and community participation to promote Oyo State’s heritage while creating an attractive platform for local businesses and entrepreneurs.
Introducing the Amala Festival Village Initiative
As part of the expanded programme, the Amala Festival team and the Oyo State Agency for Youth Development are proposing the Amala Festival Village Initiative.
The initiative is designed as a community-focused sponsorship opportunity through which distinguished individuals, philanthropists, community leaders, organisations and corporate partners can directly contribute to feeding festival attendees.
Under the proposed structure, each sponsored Amala Village will provide Executive Amala Plates to festival guests.
Each Executive Amala Plate will contain:
Four wraps of Amala
Abula
Ogunfe
Beef
Table water
With four sponsored villages, the initiative would provide Executive Amala Plates to festival visitors.
Beyond feeding guests, the initiative is designed to create a stronger sense of community ownership around the festival, allowing sponsors and stakeholders to participate directly in one of the event’s central attractions: the celebration of Amala and Yoruba food culture.
Amala Festival 5.0 Targets 10,000+ Attendees
Amala Festival 5.0 – Roots, Royalty & Rhythm is scheduled for 4 and 5 December 2026 in Ibadan, Oyo State, with the organisers projecting attendance of not less than 10,000 people.
The festival is expected to combine food, music, culture, fashion, entertainment, entrepreneurship and community participation in what organisers describe as a significantly larger edition.
The proposed collaboration with the Oyo State Agency for Youth Development could therefore represent an important step towards connecting the festival more directly with Oyo’s youth and grassroots communities.
For a state agency whose mandate includes cultural, social and economic empowerment of young people, the proposed partnership provides a natural platform for youth participation while allowing the Amala Festival to deepen its position as a major celebration of Oyo State’s culinary heritage.
If successfully implemented, the Amala Festival Village Initiative could become one of the defining attractions of the 2026 edition—turning the simple act of sharing a plate of Amala into a larger celebration of heritage, generosity, community and Oyo identity.
