Makinde Commends Akintayo For Delivering Laudable Projects, Says LG Chairman Restored Glory Of New Park Through IBNE LG …As Gov Commissions 69 Lock-Up Shops, 108 Open Stalls, Motor Park, Others

Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, on Friday, commended the Executive Chairman of Ibadan North-East Local Government, Hon. Ibrahim Akintayo, for delivering laudable projects aimed at improving commerce, transportation and the overall wellbeing of residents in the council area.

Makinde gave the commendation while commissioning the newly constructed 69 lock-up shops, 108 open stalls, motor park and other facilities executed by the Ibadan North-East Local Government.

The governor described the projects as a demonstration of the positive impact of collaboration between the state and local governments, noting that such partnership had continued to produce people-oriented developments across Oyo State.

He specifically commended Akintayo for restoring the glory of the park, which he said was once a vibrant commercial hub, stressing that the new facilities would provide traders, motorists and commuters with a safer, cleaner and more conducive environment.

“I am glad today that we have restored the glory of this park through the Ibadan North-East Local Government,” Makinde said.

The governor assured roadside traders that had been documented that the newly constructed shops would be allocated to them free of charge, urging them to relocate from the roads into the designated market facilities.

He warned against extortion, directing beneficiaries to report anyone who attempted to collect money from them for the allocation of the shops.

“We have decided that we will always make provisions before prohibiting roadside trading. What people fail to realise is that these traders use part of their little profit to send their children to school. So, we have done this project to ease their burden,” the governor added.

Earlier, the Executive Chairman of Ibadan North-East Local Government, Hon. Ibrahim Akintayo, expressed appreciation to Governor Makinde for his commitment to people-oriented policies and his continued support for local governments across the state.

Akintayo said the governor’s policies had inspired local government administrations to undertake projects that directly address the needs of residents and contribute to socio-economic development.

The council chairman urged transport unions, market associations, business owners and other users of the facilities to take ownership of the projects by maintaining cleanliness, preventing vandalism, complying with operational guidelines and ensuring orderliness within the premises.

Giving the vote of thanks, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Hon. Ademola Ojo, appreciated Governor Makinde for his unwavering support for local governments, describing the projects as evidence of the administration’s commitment to grassroots development.

He also commended stakeholders whose contributions, he said, facilitated the successful completion of the projects and promoted the ease of doing business in the state.

The commissioning ceremony was attended by the Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Barr. Abdulraheem Adebayo Lawal; Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Musibau Babatunde; Chief of Staff, Otunba Segun Ogunwuyi, PhD; members of the State Executive Council; Chairman of Local Government Chairmen in Oyo State, Hon. Sikiru Sanda; Babaloja General of Oyo State, Alhaji Y.K. Abass; market leaders, traditional rulers, religious leaders and other dignitaries.
