Hon. Saminu Rilwan Gbadamosi, widely known as Wale Canada and representing the good people of Atisbo/Saki East at the Oyo State House of Assembly, has expressed deep sorrow and anger over the tragic killing of a secondary school student in Alakia, Ibadan, allegedly shot by a police officer.

 

The young student, according to reports, was on his way to sit for his West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WAEC) when his life was senselessly cut short.

 

In a statement released by the lawmaker, Hon. Wale Canada extended his heartfelt condolences to the grieving family and demanded swift and transparent justice for the victim.

 

“This is a deeply heartbreaking incident—an innocent life lost under tragic and preventable circumstances,” Hon. Gbadamosi said. “Eyewitness accounts suggest the student was struck by a stray police bullet during a pursuit. This is not only reckless but has caused irreparable pain to a family and robbed our society of a promising future.”

 

The honorable lawmaker, known for his grassroots advocacy and commitment to youth empowerment, emphasized the emotional trauma inflicted on the local community and urged the authorities to act without hesitation.

“No parent should have to bury their child under such circumstances. I stand in full solidarity with the bereaved family and demand immediate action. The Oyo State Commissioner of Police must ensure that the officer involved is identified, apprehended, and prosecuted to the full extent of the law. Justice must not be delayed or denied.”

 

Hon. Gbadamosi also seized the moment to call for urgent reforms within Nigeria’s law enforcement agencies, stressing the need for accountability, retraining, and a cultural shift towards truly protective policing.

 

“This incident is a stark reminder that our security architecture needs comprehensive reform. Our people must be able to trust that those meant to protect them do not become threats. The safety of our children must remain a sacred priority.”

 

The unfortunate event has ignited widespread outrage across social media platforms, with calls for justice and police reform growing louder.

 

Hon. Wale Canada concluded his statement with prayers for the victim’s family, asking for divine comfort during this time of unspeakable loss.
