The member representing Ibadan North-West/Ibadan South-West Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Adedeji Dhikrullahi Olajide, popularly known as Odidiomo, has fulfilled his earlier promise to provide immediate relief to victims of the recent violent attack at the Molete market in Ibadan by disbursing cash support to affected victims.

The intervention is aimed at cushioning the financial losses suffered by traders and other residents whose livelihoods were disrupted during the unrest.

In a press statement made available to newsmen in Ibadan by his Special Adviser on Media and Public Affairs, Tolu Mustapha, the federal lawmaker affirmed that the gesture reflects his core political philosophy of protecting the lives, property and economic well-being of his constituents.

Mustapha noted that the Molete axis falls within the lawmaker’s constituency, making it imperative for him to intervene and alleviate the financial hardship suffered by hardworking traders whose goods and business assets were reportedly looted or destroyed during the violence.

According to the statement, preliminary investigations conducted after the incident identified two categories of victims: traders operating under the Molete flyover bridge whose goods were carted away, and commercial transport operators as well as private motorists whose vehicles and motorcycles were reportedly stolen or severely damaged.

Of the nine traders identified as having suffered significant losses, six were physically present to receive their emergency cash support, while the remaining three could not attend because they were undergoing medical treatment for injuries sustained during the violence.

The statement assured that the financial entitlements of the three absent victims had been safely set aside and would be delivered directly to them as they continue their recovery, ensuring that no identified victim would be left out of the intervention.

The cash disbursement follows an earlier on-the-spot assessment and sympathy visit by Hon. Olajide to the Molete under-bridge market, where he condemned the violent attack as a threat to public peace, security and the economic well-being of residents.

During the visit, the lawmaker, who is also the Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM) candidate for Oyo South Senatorial District in the 2027 general election, promised to provide restitution for lost assets, purchase a brand-new motorcycle for an assaulted commercial rider, and cover the medical bills of all hospitalised victims receiving treatment at various health facilities in Ibadan.

The latest intervention underscores his commitment to fulfilling the promises made during the visit and supporting affected residents as they work towards rebuilding their livelihoods.

Reaffirming his commitment to responsive and people-oriented legislative representation, Hon. Olajide assured traders and residents across Oyo South Senatorial District that his office would continue to prioritise security, social justice and economic recovery.

He also called on security agencies to expedite investigations into the Molete attack, apprehend those responsible and ensure that all perpetrators and alleged sponsors are prosecuted in accordance with the law.

The lawmaker further appealed to residents across the district to remain calm and law-abiding and to continue their legitimate daily activities without fear of intimidation or harassment.
