Ahead of the National Sports Festival, tagged Gateway Games 2025, to be held in Ogun State, the Torch of Unity arrived in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Tuesday.

The torch was officially handed over to the Deputy Governor, Barrister Bayo Lawal, who received it on behalf of Governor Seyi Makinde.

It was presented by Mrs. Ekeana Ibora, who led a delegation from the National Sports Commission (NSC), accompanied by members of Team Oyo, at the Governor’s Office.

Addressing officials and athletes, Governor Makinde described the Torch of Unity as a powerful symbol of peace, unity, and brotherhood across Nigeria’s 36 states.

He emphasized that the torch reaffirms the collective commitment to national cohesion and shared progress. The governor urged Oyo athletes to uphold sportsmanship and integrity, serving as exemplary representatives both on and off the field.

Makinde also reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to recognizing and rewarding athletes who bring honor to the state.

The 22nd National Sports Festival, “The Gateway Games Ogun 2025,” takes place from May 16-30, 2025. Governor Seyi Makinde expressed optimism about the event’s potential to showcase talent, resilience, and unity.
