OFFICIAL STATEMENT ON THE ROAD ACCIDENT INVOLVING CROWN FC, OGBOMOSO
I received with deep sadness the news of the tragic road accident involving Crown Football Club, Ogbomoso, on Thursday, October 15, 2026, while the team was travelling to Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, for the AFH Pre-Season Tournament at the Ebedei Stadium.
According to reports, the club’s Toyota Coaster bus collided with a trailer while en route to the tournament venue. The driver, Mr. Yinusa Popoola, sustained serious injuries and was initially taken to Adeoyo Hospital, Ring Road, Ibadan, for medical attention. He was subsequently referred to Bowen University Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso, but sadly passed away at Caretaker, Ogbomoso, before he could be admitted.
Following thorough medical checks, all players and officials have been assessed, and no casualties were recorded among them. I am relieved that no lives were lost within the team.

On behalf of the Oyo State Ministry of Youth and Sports, I extend my heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and loved ones of the late Mr. Yinusa Popoola. This is a painful loss, and I pray that Almighty God grants the bereaved family the strength and fortitude to bear this difficult moment.
Mr. Popoola was an important member of the Crown FC travelling party, and his passing has thrown the entire club family into deep mourning. Our thoughts and prayers are with his immediate family, and we stand in solidarity with them at this period of immense sorrow.
The welfare and safety of our athletes and sports personnel remain a top priority of this administration. We stand in solidarity with the entire Crown FC family during this difficult period and will continue to monitor developments concerning their welfare.
I appreciate the concern, prayers and solidarity shown by football stakeholders, supporters and members of the public since the incident. I urge everyone to remain calm, rely only on verified information, and refrain from circulating unverified reports.
May Almighty God grant the departed eternal rest, comfort his family, and continue to protect our athletes and officials in all their engagements.
