As part of his ongoing commitment to grassroots development and infrastructure enhancement, Hon. Akinwole Akinleye has launched the Light Up Project with the installation of solar-powered streetlights in Orogun, Ward 08 of Akinyele Local Government Area, Ibadan, Oyo State.

The project, which began this week, aims to improve public safety, enhance nighttime visibility, and stimulate economic activities in the community.
By harnessing renewable solar energy, the initiative not only supports sustainability but also addresses persistent power supply challenges affecting public lighting in rural and semi-urban areas.

Speaking at the flag-off ceremony, Hon. Akinleye who was represented by Local Government Chief of staff, Hon Aderinwale Abideen Adeyemi emphasized the importance of providing essential infrastructure to underserved communities. “This project is a response to the calls from residents for better lighting and security. It is also a step towards fostering a more vibrant evening economy,” he stated.

Residents of Orogun expressed appreciation for the intervention, noting that it will significantly reduce criminal activities often associated with dark streets, while also encouraging more social and commercial engagement after sunset.

The solar-powered streetlights come with automated sensors and long-lasting batteries, ensuring efficient energy use and minimal maintenance. The project aligns with broader state-level efforts to promote sustainable energy solutions and community development.
Hon. Akinleye reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to delivering impactful projects that directly improve the quality of life for constituents, assuring that more communities in Akinyele LGA will soon benefit from similar developmental initiatives.
