Oyo State Government, led by Deputy Governor Barrister Bayo Lawal, has visited the Aleshinloye Market in Ibadan, where a devastating fire outbreak recently occurred, leaving many traders counting their losses.

During the visit, Barrister Lawal commiserated with the affected traders and reassured them of the state government’s support. He acknowledged the significant impact of the fire on the traders’ livelihoods and promised that the government would provide assistance to help them recover from the setback.

Aleshinloye Market, one of the largest markets in Ibadan, was gutted by fire, leaving hundreds of traders affected. The cause of the fire is still unknown, but it is believed to have been caused by an electrical fault.

“On behalf of Governor Seyi Makinde, I’m here to offer condolences for the devastating market fire. Thankfully, no lives were lost. This popular market has been a hub for traders for years, making the incident even more painful.

As the government, our immediate priority is to provide support to those affected. We’ll work through the Oyo State Emergency Management Agency (Oyo SEMA) and collaborate with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and public-spirited individuals to provide aid.

We’re committed to understanding the cause of the fire and assessing the damage. A comprehensive report will guide our efforts to support the victims and prevent similar incidents in the future.

This market is vital to Oyo State’s commerce, attracting traders from Benin Republic, Ivory Coast, and Niger Republic. We recognize its importance and will take concrete steps to support its recovery.”
