In line with Governor Seyi Makinde’s unwavering commitment to educational advancement and youth development in Oyo State, the Executive Chairman of Ona Ara Local Government, Dr. Temitope Kolapo Glorious, has embarked on a critical sensitization campaign to curb the alarming rise of hooliganism, thuggery, and other social vices among secondary school students.

During a visitation to several schools across Ona Ara Local Government, Dr. Glorious emphasized the dangers of thuggery, hooliganism, and drug abuse, stressing that these vices have the potential to destroy young lives, ruin futures, and lead to untimely deaths. His visit followed distress calls from some secondary schools regarding the increasing prevalence of these negative behaviors.
Dr. Glorious expressed deep concern over the growing menace of hooliganism in secondary schools, describing it as a major threat to the future of the youth. He warned that engaging in such activities offers no benefits but only leads to destruction, imprisonment, and even death.

Reaffirming the Oyo State Government’s dedication to education, Dr. Glorious stated: “Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration is committed to improving education across the state. However, for students to fully benefit from these efforts, they must reject negative influences and embrace discipline, hard work, and academic excellence.”
He urged students to become good ambassadors of their families, local government, and the state by staying focused on their studies and striving to achieve their dreams.

Dr. Temitope Glorious called on parents and teachers to be proactive in monitoring their children’s behavior, ensuring they do not engage in unlawful activities. He emphasized that parental guidance is crucial in shaping responsible and successful individuals.
The Council Chairman highlighted the grave consequences of hooliganism and thuggery, warning that students involved in such acts risk: Expulsion from school, Mental instability, Involvement in ritual killings, Severe criminal charges, Sudden and untimely death.
To reinforce the sensitization campaign, security agencies were present during the school visits, including: Nigeria Police Force (Ogbere Division), Operation Burst, Department of State Services (DSS), Amotekun Security Network, Oyo State Vigilante Group, Agbekoya Security Outfit.
Additionally, Dr. Glorious announced the formation of a Special Task Force to curb the menace and ensure that schools remain safe and conducive for learning.
The schools visited include: Elekuro Senior & Junior Schools 1, Elekuro Senior & Junior Schools 2, Abonde Community Senior & Junior Schools, Oke Ogbere Community School, Community High School, Sawia, Community High School, Bioku Alaadun, Community Secondary School, Bioku Alaadun.
Dr. Glorious was accompanied by key officials, including: Hon. Babatunde Sunmonu – Secretary, Hon. Arinola Isiaq – Chief of Staff, Hon. Adekola Adeniran – Supervisor for Works, Mr. Olanrewaju Olatunbosun – Director of Administration, Mr. Akinloye Oyeniran – Director of Finance & Supplies, Alhaja Adenike Akande – Director of Education & Social Services.
Speaking on behalf of the visited schools, Mr. Abiodun Olusegun, Principal of Elekuro Senior School 1, expressed profound gratitude for the intervention by the local government administration. He assured the Council Chairman of the unwavering support of all school principals and teachers in ensuring a safer learning environment.
