Hon. Sheriff Aderemi Adeojo, the Executive Chairman of Ido Local Government, marked his 100 days in office for his second tenure on September 10, 2024, by launching an extensive empowerment program for hundreds of entrepreneurs and traders across the local government area.
The event, held at the Ido Local Government Secretariat, was attended by party leaders, government officials, and community members, underscoring the administration’s commitment to grassroots development and economic empowerment.
In his address, Hon. Adeojo expressed his gratitude to the local government executives, party leaders, and other dignitaries present at the event.
He reaffirmed his unwavering support and loyalty to His Excellency, Governor Engr. Oluwaseyi Abiodun Makinde, and his leadership in Oyo State.
Hon. Adeojo highlighted the purpose of the empowerment initiative, stating that it is aimed at alleviating poverty and enhancing economic independence for residents of Ido Local Government.
“The empowerment initiative is targeted at making life more bearable for all and sundry within the local government,” Hon. Adeojo said. “It is my hope that the beneficiaries will make judicious use of the opportunities provided to them today, to overcome economic challenges and achieve self-reliance.”
He further emphasized that this initiative is just the beginning, promising more empowerment programs in the near future to continue supporting the people of Ido Local Government. The Chairman’s vision is to create an economically vibrant community where small businesses can thrive and contribute to the overall development of the area.
The Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ido Local Government, in his remarks, commended Hon. Adeojo for his leadership and commitment to empowering the people.
He encouraged the beneficiaries to make the best use of the tools and financial support provided to them. “This empowerment program is a golden opportunity for you to uplift yourselves in these challenging economic times,” he stated.
Hon. Mathew Akano, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Ido Local Government Affairs, also addressed the gathering. He welcomed the executives and applauded Hon. Adeojo’s initiatives to support the local community.
“The empowerment of entrepreneurs and traders is a strategic move to help our people navigate the current economic challenges,” he noted. “This effort aligns with the broader goals of the state government under Governor Makinde’s leadership to improve the welfare of our citizens.”
The highlight of the event was the distribution of various empowerment tools and financial grants to the beneficiaries. The items distributed included:
– Monetary Awards: Cash grants to support business expansion and startup capital for new entrepreneurs.
– Generating Sets: To assist small businesses in overcoming power supply challenges.
– Clippers and Hair Dryers: For barbers and hairdressers to enhance their services.
– Sewing Machines: To support tailors and fashion designers in scaling up their businesses.
– Grinding Machines: To aid food processors in local communities.
– Deep Freezers: For small-scale food vendors and cold chain businesses.
– Vulcanizing Machines: To support vulcanizers and roadside mechanics in improving their services.
The beneficiaries, selected from different wards within the local government, expressed their gratitude to the Chairman and his administration for the support. They pledged to utilize the equipment and funds effectively to improve their businesses and contribute positively to the local economy.
The event concluded with a renewed sense of hope and commitment to economic empowerment among the residents of Ido Local Government.
