Two hundred and fifty seven former councillors in Oyo North Senatorial Distrct of Oyo State have endorsed Professor Adeolu Akande as their preffered candidate for the ticket of All Progressives Congress(APC) in the district for thee 2027 senatorial election.

The councillors who cut across the 13 local government councils of the.senatorial district met in Iseyin, headquarters of Iseyin local government to pass their resolution ahead of the primaries of the APC scheduled for Monday Mayn18,2026.

The endorsement of the 257 councillors came two days after 24 out of surviving former 31 local government chairmen in the senatorial district also endorse the candidacy of Professor Akande.

In Iseyin, the counsellorrs reviewed the aspirants in the party in the senatorial district and passed a resolution that Professor Akande is the best candidate to carry the flag of the APC in the 2027 election.

Hon. Asamu Yunus Adewale, a former counsellor from Saki West Local Government noted that although there were two senatorial aspirants from his local government, himself and his colleagues concluded that Prof Akande is the best candidate for the party at this time. In his words, we are very lucky that our rival party had picked its senatorial candidate. This has given us the advantage to look at our aspirants and select the one that will certainly defeat the APM candidate. Professor Akande is the only one who can achieve the feat because he is accepted in all parts of the senatorial district’.

Hon Jamiu Olajide from Itesiwaju Local Government in his interview after the meeting stated that he hails from Itesiwaju local government like Professor Akande and is happy that he has total support in the council area. He noted that Prof Akande has been part of the development of the local government and the people are eager to show their appreciation by turning out enmasse to elect him as the Senator.

Hon Robert Ogungbenro from Atisbo Local Government disclosed that the entire APC structure in Atisbo Local Government support the aspiration of Professor Akande even though they have two aspirants contesting for the same ticket in their federal constituency. He explained that the old Ifedapo federal constituency are in support of Professor Akande because he has been part of the development of the area. As Chairman of NCC, he extended teslecommunicwtion services to many of our communities and executed many projects at the Michael Koleoso Polythecnic in Saki.

Hon Jimoh Wasiu from Orire Local Government noted that the largest continent of councillors came from Ogbomosho North and they are fully in support of Prof Akande because he had been beneficial to LAUTECH Ogbomosho in the previous offices he occupied.

A female former councellor,Hon Felicia Olutayo from Ogbomosho North Local Gpvernmrnt explained that she would have preffered a female senator in the district but ‘we need to be realistic as a political party. The APM has picked a candidate that our female aspirant cannot defeat. APM has picked a strong candidate so we need a stronger candidate like Prof Akande to defeat APM in the election.

In their resolution, the former councillors noted that they are the foremost footsoldiers of the APC because they represent the wards which is the closest to the grassroots in the party structure. They vowed to use their grassroots presence to deliver a decisive victory to Professor Akande at the direct primaries of the APC and in the general election of 2027.
