The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, FCA, popularly known as Yayi, has unveiled his nine-pillar development agenda, tagged “ITESIWAJU for Ogun State,” with a call for continuity in governance and development policies.
Adeola unveiled the agenda on Monday while meeting with members of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) in Ogun State, where he advocated an issue-based campaign ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
The APC candidate cited the development trajectory of Lagos State since the return to democratic rule in 1999 as an example of how successive administrations can build on existing policies and projects rather than abandoning them.
According to him, Ogun State could achieve similar multiplier effects if successive administrations prioritised continuity, evaluated existing projects based on their benefits to the people and completed viable initiatives inherited from previous governments.
“If Lagos could achieve what it has achieved through seamless transition of government from one administration to another, we can begin to imagine the multiplier effects that continuity can bring to the economy and development of Ogun.
“People must be able to know what your plans are for the youth, the economy, women, industrialisation, infrastructure, contractors and agriculture. Where are you taking us to? People should judge us on those issues,” he said.
Adeola said discontinuity in governance could set development back by several years, stressing that projects should not be abandoned simply because they were initiated by a previous administration.
He also challenged other governorship candidates and political parties to present clear programmes to the electorate, particularly in the areas of youth development, women empowerment, industrialisation, agriculture, infrastructure, security, job creation and economic growth.
ITESIWAJU Agenda
Unveiling his proposed development framework, Adeola explained that “Itesiwaju Ipinle Ogun,” meaning the progress of Ogun State, was developed following extensive consultations across the state.
The nine pillars of the agenda are:
- I — Infrastructure
- T — Tourism and Culture
- E — Economic Empowerment
- S — Security and Welfare
- I — Inclusive Growth and Well-being
- W — Women, Youth and Poverty Eradication
- A — Agriculture and Food Security
- J — Job Creation and Industrialisation
- U — Urbanisation and Transparency
The Ogun West Senator said the agenda was designed as a comprehensive development framework aimed at addressing the needs of residents across different sectors.
“This is not a document put together for the sake of putting a document together. It is not a document put together for the sake of grabbing power.
“I put this document together with all sense of purpose. A document that took me three years to put together. It is a document meticulously crafted to attend to every need of everyone of this state,” he said.
Adeola added that the document was informed by consultations with thousands of residents across Ogun State.
He expressed confidence in the state’s economic and human resources, saying his aspiration was driven by a desire to contribute to the continued development of Ogun.
Calls for Issue-Based Campaign
The APC candidate also called on political parties and candidates participating in the 2027 election to focus their campaigns on ideas, policies and programmes rather than personal attacks.
He further dismissed the controversy surrounding his ancestral roots, describing it as political manoeuvring and desperation for power.
“My ancestral challenge is mere politics and desperation for power. I have a vision and believe in the development of this state, so I refuse to be bothered. I refuse to be blackmailed. Under my government, you must be eminently qualified to earn a position,” he said.
IPAC Urges Candidates to Avoid Personal Attacks
Earlier, the Ogun State Chairman of IPAC, Comrade Abayomi Sanyaolu, commended Senator Adeola for what he described as his contributions across the three senatorial districts of the state.
Sanyaolu urged all governorship candidates to avoid inflammatory language, vulgar expressions and personal attacks during the 2027 election campaign.
He advised candidates to instead present their manifestos and development plans to the electorate, allowing voters to assess the competing programmes on their merits.
