Former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has formally his tent with the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

The move was announced on Wednesday at a political gathering held in Enugu State.

The defection event is taking place at the Nike Lake Resort, Enugu. Party leaders, political stakeholders, and supporters from across the South East are present

The gathering signals a major shift in the region’s political alignment ahead of future elections.

Obi’s supporters from the South East are also expected to follow him into the ADC. Many of them arrived early at the venue, chanting solidarity songs and displaying party insignia.

The atmosphere reflects strong grassroots backing for the former Anambra State governor.

Peter Obi contested the 2023 presidential election under the Labour Party. He finished third but emerged as a major political force, especially among young voters and urban populations.

Since the election, he has maintained an active political presence and repeatedly hinted at contesting again in 2027 on a broader platform.

Sources within the ADC describe Obi’s entry as a strategic boost for the party. They believe his national appeal and disciplined image could strengthen the party’s chances in future elections. Party leaders at the event described the defection as a turning point.
