Lagos State House of Assembly witnessed a moment of raw emotion on Monday as Speaker Rt. Hon. Mojisola Meranda was moved to tears after lawmakers overwhelmingly passed a vote of confidence in her leadership. The development comes amid a tense political crisis that has rocked the state legislature.

Hon. Meranda, the first female Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, has faced mounting pressure following the controversial invasion of the assembly complex by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) on February 17, 2025. The security operation, which has sparked widespread condemnation, added fuel to the ongoing leadership dispute within the legislative arm.

Despite the turbulence, Meranda stood firm, withstanding political opposition and external pressures. In a dramatic session, lawmakers expressed their support, passing a resounding vote of confidence in her ability to lead the House. The Speaker, known for her resilience and commitment to democracy, was visibly overwhelmed as she wiped away tears while acknowledging the trust reposed in her by her colleagues.

With tensions still high and uncertainty looming, all eyes remain on the Lagos Assembly as the Speaker navigates the storm. Will this vote of confidence be enough to restore stability, or will the crisis deepen further? Only time will tell.

Lagos Reporters will continue to provide updates as the situation unfolds.
