Rotarian Akande Kazeem Babatunde, Charter President of the Rotary Club of Ibadan Challenge, has extended heartfelt congratulations to Rotarian Olayinka Hakeem Babalola on his historic appointment as President of Rotary International for the 2026/2027 Rotary year.

As only the second African and Nigerian to lead the 119-year-old global humanitarian organization, Babalola’s appointment is a moment of immense pride for Nigeria and the entire Rotary community.
Rotarian Babalola, a distinguished member of the Rotary Club of Trans Amadi, has exemplified exceptional leadership since joining Rotary in 1994. His roles as District Governor (2011/12), Vice President of Rotary International (2019/20), and trustee of ShelterBox UK, alongside his work with the Safe Blood Africa project, have earned him global recognition, including the RI Service Above Self Award and The Rotary Foundation Citation for Meritorious Service.

His commitment to humanitarian causes, such as the recent $9.8 million initiative to combat malaria and diarrheal diseases in Nigeria, sets a powerful example for Rotarians worldwide.

As a dedicated Rotarian, Akande noted he feels honored to celebrate this milestone.
Having served as the Pioneer Peace Chair for Rotary District 9126 and Peace Zonal Coordinator for the former District 9125, Akande said he recognizes the significance of Babalola’s leadership in advancing Rotary’s mission of peace and service. His presidency, beginning July 1, 2026, will inspire transformative impact in maternal health, education, peacebuilding, and environmental sustainability.
Akande further pledged his unwavering support for Rotarian Babalola’s vision. In his message, he called on all Rotarians to join in celebrating this historic moment and working together to create lasting change under his leadership.
