In an efforts to address shortage of teachers in Oyo State, the chairman House Committee on Education in Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Fowokanmi Betterlife, has commended Governor Seyi Makinde for his recent approval of new teachers recruitment under the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) and the Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM).
Betterlife, in a statement on Tuesday, described the Governor’s move as a bold step to improve education standard in the state and reduce unemployment rates.
He reiterated that the recruitments mark a significant stride toward ensuring a brighter future for Oyo State’s students.
Recall that Hon. Betterlife, representing Ibadan Southwest Constituency 2, had earlier made a passionate appeal to the Executive to take urgent action to fill all the vacancies in the Oyo state public schools in order to make the aim and education policy of GSM realizable.
While describing the Governor as a listener of peoples’ plight and agitation, the lawmaker maintained that no government in the history of Oyo state and Nigeria in general had ever embarked on such a massive recruitment across all sectors.
He said: “We thank God for giving us a proactive, listening and friend of the masses as governor. It should be noted that no government in the history of our dear state and Nigeria in general has embarked on such an unprecedented mass recruitment in all sectors.
“Taking the total number of employees into Oyo state civil service close to fifty thousand people since this government came on board on May 2019. Setting an agenda that is difficult for any Governor of a state can beat in near future in spite of increment in salary of workers and expansion of infrastructural facilities in the state.”
The lawmaker however called on the new employees to see the opportunity as a way of contributing their quotas to the development of the state.
