Tragedy struck at the Polytechnic Ibadan yesterday when a sudden health challenge occurred on campus, prompting the Rector, Dr. Taiwo Lasisi, to seek immediate medical assistance.

Dr. Lasisi visited the office of the OYSHM Chairman, Dr. Fagbemi, around 2:30 pm to request help.

The affected students were swiftly transported to nearby hospitals, with some taken to Ring Road Specialise Hospital, Ibadan, and others to University College Hospital.

Three students from the Polytechnic Ibadan were admitted to Ring Road Specialist Hospital, including Mary Taiwo, 17, Pelumi Adewale, 18, and Damilola Ayanleke, 21.

According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred in the Science Lecture theatre, where an argument between two female students escalated.

Someone, yet to be identified, entered the lecture hall and sprayed an unknown substance, causing the students to lose consciousness.

The students were rushed to the hospital, where their vital signs were found to be stable, with oxygen saturation levels ranging from 97-100%.

They are currently receiving oxygen therapy and undergoing review by a Consultant Physician. Fortunately, all three students have regained consciousness.

An investigation into the incident is likely to follow, with authorities working to identify the individual responsible for spraying the unknown substance.
