Full Statement:

The General Secretary of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Oyo State Chapter, Alhaji Wasiu Adeleke, paid a strategic visit to the monthly PDP meeting of Ona Ara Local Government today. The meeting, which was attended by top political figures and grassroots party stakeholders, was an avenue to foster party unity, encourage discipline, and chart the course for victory in future elections.
In his opening remarks, Alhaji Wasiu Adeleke warmly appreciated the presence of notable party leaders such as Alhaji Mufutau Ogunremi, Alhaji Waheed Adurodekun, Hon. Soba Bakare (Party Chairman, Ona Ara LG), Alhaji Hakeem Oke, Alfa Kehinde Adeyemo, Hon. Abiodun Fadeyi (Deputy Speaker, Oyo State House of Assembly), Hon. Ezekiel Temitope Oladimeji (DG Liaison Office, Abuja), and Hon. Temitope Kolapo Glorious (Executive Chairman, Ona Ara Local Government), alongside other committed party faithful.

He charged all political office holders in Ona Ara to emulate His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde, by being selfless, accountable, and loyal to the growth of the party. According to him, “every office holder must not forget that their mandate is from the party, and they must remain worthy ambassadors of the PDP at all times.”

Alhaji Wasiu Adeleke emphasized the need for meritocracy in political appointments, lamenting the growing practice of favoritism. He cautioned local leaders to reward hard work and party loyalty, stating that “when members see that appointments are based on commitment during elections, it reduces tension and resentment.”

In a major policy insight, he disclosed that the salaries of political appointees in the local government will soon be reviewed upward, as part of the Governor’s commitment to worker and stakeholder welfare. However, he issued a strong warning: “Any appointee who fails to show respect for the party or engage in activities that undermine our unity and discipline will be dealt with accordingly. The PDP is a party of structure and order.”
Addressing recent speculations around party alliances, the PDP Secretary vehemently ruled out any coalition with other parties. “Let it be known: our party is the largest in Africa. We are too big to join any coalition. Any party seeking alliance should come and join us instead. In 2027, PDP will reclaim power from the devilish APC. We must remain focused and reject any distractions,” he asserted.
He affirmed that the National Working Committee of the PDP is in full alignment with the resolutions of the PDP Governors’ Forum held in Ibadan recently, and urged members to always key into the collective vision of the party at all levels.
Alhaji Wasiu Adeleke went further to commend aspirants across the local government for their sacrifices and for deploying their personal resources to promote the party’s interest. He, however, advised them to show the spirit of sportsmanship, as only one candidate will emerge for each position. “Let no one sow seeds of discord if not picked. Everyone will be rewarded for their loyalty and service in due time.”
He extended a special commendation to Hon. Temitope Kolapo Glorious, the Chairman of Ona Ara Local Government, describing him as a unifier who has grown remarkably in his leadership performance. He acknowledged previously expressing dissatisfaction with him but stated that the Chairman has now shown commendable improvement. He charged him to sustain the momentum and lead the effort to deliver all PDP candidates once they emerge.
In his closing words, Alhaji Wasiu Adeleke appreciated all PDP members in Ona Ara for their unwavering support and urged them to continue to uphold party unity, discipline, and loyalty, which are the bedrock of victory.
