Son of the former football administrator in Nigeria, Dr. Amos Adamu, Joshua Adamu have lend his voice to call on Nigerians that are well to do to invest in hrasssroot sports development to curd youth menace and other social vices.
Speaking at a press briefing to herald the maiden Orumogege Football Competition organised by Ogbomoso youth forum to commemorate the one year anniversary of His royal Majesty, Oba Ghandi Olaoye, Soun of Ogbomoso.
Speaking further, Joshua Adamu believe that intentional and conscious efforts to develop sports from the grassroots has to be put in so as to discover talents that will bless the world stage and put Nigeria on the world map of Sports.
“A country as big and blessed as Nigeria can not run from grassroot talent discovery”.
“The purpose of grass root development is to discover talents and to channel the energy of our youths away from bad vices to positive and economical benefit ventures through sports”.
Adamu also speak on the strategy , saying the major grass root development strategy is provision of enabling environment; providing world class facilities that will enable talents to match up with there contemporaries in other countries.
Joshua however express his heartfelt congratulations to the Soun of Ogbomoso,Oba Olaoye Ghandi on his first year anniversary on the throne.
“Orumogegehe tournament is a good one and it’s coming in at a time where the youth and the nation is at a point where we need to remind ourselves who we are and stay positive and productive. Sports is a unifying factor and we have to project that through sports”.
“My advice to the powers that be is to let’s develop sports and channel our youths energy to positive and profitable ventures so they shun social vices. And one of the ways to develop sports is to provide good facilities. Sports infrastructure also helps bring rapid development the community” He said.
The football competition according to the chairman of the tournament, Amos Ado, says draws have taken place among the 32-team across Ogbomoso land and the kick is taking place in few days time to mark the first year anniversary of Oba Soun of Ogbomoso, Olaoye Ghandi, Orumogege III and it will run through four weeks while the final of the tournament shall hold on boxing day, December 26, 2024.
