OPEN LETTER TO LADOKE AKINTOLA UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY MANAGEMENT ON PROPOSED INCREMENT OF TUITION

Dear Management,

We trust this letter finds you well. The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) wishes to bring to your attention our concerns regarding the circulating information pertaining to a proposed increment in tuition for newly admitted students at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology.

Our association vehemently opposes this decision, as we believe it is ill-timed and economically inadvisable. Considering the prevailing economic climate, an increase in tuition would impose severe hardships on students and their families. The meager minimum wages, already strained by transportation costs, coupled with the core inflation rate of 28%, as reported by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), render the suggested tuition hike an impediment to students’ access to quality education.

Moreover, such a measure has the potential to drive students towards engaging in illicit activities to meet their financial needs. This not only jeopardizes the reputation of our nation but also poses a tangible threat to the overall security and well-being of the Nigerian populace, leading to increased criminality, kidnappings, and societal unrest.

In light of the ongoing economic crisis, the proposed tuition increase is ill-conceived and would only exacerbate the economic burdens faced by the common man. As stakeholders in the educational sector, the management holds a pivotal role in fostering technical skills and advocating for the monetization of these skills to empower students for self-sustenance and contribute meaningfully to societal problem-solving.

The National Association of Nigerian Students respectfully urges the esteemed management to reconsider this decision and align the university’s tuition fees with the prevailing economic realities of our time. We anticipate and hope for your compliance with the collective demands of the populace for a reevaluation and adjustment of the current tuition rates.

Thank you for your attention to this matter, and may God bless your endeavors.

Sincerely,

COMRADE TIAMIYU OLAYINKA IBRAHEEM PRINCIPLE

NANS SECRETARY GENERAL OYO STATE
